How to style a fake "wood burner" with no chimney breast?
Comments (3)Hi Kirsty, I think its a lovely idea to make a real feature out of a heater for your son. I assume you're not in a position to just upgrade the present radiator as this would probably be the simplest and most affordable option (in the long term anyway)? There's a number of ways to help the stove heater look more integrated. My personal preference I think would be to run a strip of brick slips/tiles up a section of wall behind the stove position with a hearthstone under. You could even use textured tile effect wallpaper on some hardboard so its even more affordable and easy to remove at a later date. https://brickslips.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKEAjwy8bABRD5osXMovTHpmQSJACfZY0FlU6tQpSvHwwVD6TrvajU3jAtvqOJord1ImkojvwnmhoC53fw_wcB https://your4walls.co.uk/wallpaper-categories.html#!/Brick-Wallpaper/c/14719060/offset=0&sort=normal Another simple option I think would just be to place it in a free corner, again with a hearth underneath. This should help it appear grounded and it will be less noticable that its not in the traditional chimney breast opening. Finally you could attach a mantle to the wall and paint/tile the opening or again use brick slips to frame up the stove. My only worry with this is it makes it quite obvious that its fake but that might not bother you if you like the idea of him having a mantle top to put pictures on etc. I'm not keen on the example pic I found style wise but it shows what I mean. For real authenticity you could buy a flu/black pipe to fix to the stove and ceiling but that might be overkill!...See MoreNeed advice on fireplace without working chimney
Comments (13)Of course. The dimensions would depend on the size of the fireplace/burner you would be going for. The opening would have to be made of non-flammable material, such as brick, stone, metal, porcelain tiles, Vermiculite Board, etc. You could use non-flammable paint over that. For example, our freestanding baskets like the one Richard posted above need 60 cm clearance from the bottom to the top; or if you wanted a contemporary line of fire look you could go for our Regulating Bio Containers like the one in the photo below - all required dimensions are available in the brochure with building advice on our website. We hope that helps :) Good luck with the project!...See MoreChimney breast - creating a stylish TV recess
Comments (21)Hello, It seems to me that the chimney sticks out about 350 - 400mm into the room. That's a lot of potential space. The TV is probably 50mm deep. That leaves 300mm of space doing what? I would suggest removing the chimney breast completely throughout the house. This should not cost more than about £5,000. Then I would build a bit of stud for the TV and any other elements I wanted and gain additional space on the ground floor and first floor. If you remove the chimney on the ground floor get an engineer to design a suitable support and remember any structural supports have to be signed off by building control....See MoreChimney breast design help
Comments (3)I'm afraid I am always wary of fixing the tv above a fireplace & heating source. My concerns are a/ the height it puts the tv at - is really a comfortable viewing angle?? I see currently you have the tv lower on the chest/drawers. mock up the tv on some card an hang it where you were thinking of mounting the tv and look at it for a while to see if it really is the best location. There are some mounting systems that might allow you to mount the tv flat in the alcove and bring it forward when in use. b/ heat rising from the heater and damaging/overheating the tv. We often don't realise how much heat makes it's way directly above. If you decide to position the tv in the alcove, then a darker color in the alcove would reduce reflection....See MoreOnePlan
