I love alcove shelving and wish we could have something like this, but sadly no alcoves in our house. What you have already is lovely, I think your suggested option one will finish it off - elegant, smart and homely. Can the cabinets go elsewhere in the house?

depends on the size of the doors you can get for the tower- for a standard 1970 tall tower i'd have a 450 door at the bottom and a 320 door at the top, both these door sizes are pretty common nowadays. that puts the bottom oven at 600mm from the floor (with 150mm plinth) and the top oven is about 1200mm from the floor which are both workable heights. if the doors are available in made to measure sizes (as yours are) i'd ask the customer what position they'd like the ovens to be at and make the doors and tower accordingly. has the tower been made upside down?

The standard gap between your worktop (at 900/910) and the underneath of your wall units (without pelmet) is 490/500mm so for a standard tower (2120 inc plinth) you have 720 tall wall units and for taller 2300 towers (inc plinth) you'd have the 900 wall units so the wall units are at 1400mm from the floor. But I think you're correct as you have a sink and need the extra height between the wall units and worktop. When I do a plan and if there's wall units over a sink I'd always have the wall units stepped up over the sink area if its a long run, if its just a short run then i'd have them all the same height. Even with 720 wall units these would be at 1580 from the floor which still might be a bit to low for you if you're tall.

It’s an agonising debate, isn’t it? Which style should you choose and should the period of the property be the leading influence? I think you’ve struck just the right balance by opting for the clean and contemporary handleless cabinetry and adding extra features to the room itself to add extra personality. Getting the layout and design right is definitely the first and best place to start - there are kitchens to suit every price point but you can make a lower budget kitchen look expensive with great design and accessorising, which you’ve really achieved here. And who wouldn’t have taken that cooker with them - love that colour!
