Under counter or wall oven?
Comments (10)Wall mounted ovens are definitely a more comfortable and user friendly position, however, it's not just the height that causes discomfort. You need to be wary of the door too. All wall mounted ovens have doors that open down to create a shelf, which means that you cannot physically get close to the oven shelves. This can create issues for your back when reaching into an oven with something heavier, and the shorter you are the more of an increase risk of back strain. With floor mounted ovens you have the potential of the conventional door side swing option which would help with the problem mentioned above. An ideal scenario would be wall mounted ovens with the slide away oven doors as seen in the Great British Bake Off. These ovens open downwards, but the door slides into the body of the oven, so that you can step up to the oven itself, negating a potential for back strain from stretching....See MoreHow to configure integrated ovens & a microwave at the same height
Comments (7)The advice above is right because very few manufacturers make a double oven now so there is not much choice and they don’t seem to have controls or handles that line up. I think that you have a few options- you could stack the microwave and the double oven in a tower which is likely to be the cheapest- again the double oven may not match the compact appliance. You could have your microwave built under the counter somewhere else in the kitchen so that they don’t have to match. You could have a standard single oven and by the side a 45cm appliance with a warming drawer. Or you could have two side by side 60cm ovens with two 45cm appliances. Don’t forget that your appliances both 45cm and 60cm can be conventional or steam ovens or microwaves or grills or do more than one function. Or they could be sous vide ovens or coffee machines. Look at the Siemens website for inspiration and have a think about how often you need the various functions- for example you might decide you use a microwave so rarely that a cheap counter top model in the utility room would do and you fill the kitchen space with another full sized oven that gets used more. Alternatively you might add a single oven in a less convenient position for the rare occasions it is used- again this could be the utility room....See MoreBuilt-in oven with microwave function - is it good enough?
Comments (8)@pm60 no you can run both at the same time. My Mum has a compact Siemens oven with Microwave and basically it can be an oven, a microwave or both at the same time. This speeds up cooking times so instead of the family lasagne taking 40 minutes it takes 20-25mins....See MoreHelp me with ovens layout, please?
Comments (21)Do you really have to have double ovens? Only you know that answer. I only use my 30" oven (I'm American) for a few holidays. Instead, I use my $100 countertop toaster oven and $100 countertop microwave daily. If you really want two ovens, stick one oven under your cooktop/hob. Put the warming drawer under the microwave and put them both next to oven two. (Picture goes a little crazy with ovens and has both a warming drawer and a vacuum drawer, but you get the idea.) I was going to install a combi-microwave convection oven in my current remodel and am passing. It is a lot more expensive than a built-in microwave and costs a lot more. I passed largely because I was afraid my son would leave the metal rack in it and then operate it as a microwave. I don't need that headache or a broken appliance. My guess is that they don't last long anyway. So I am getting a drawer microwave instead. I am not thrilled with that idea but that is how things roll sometimes. I needed to buy 5 appliances to get the "free" extended warranty, and that appliance was it. My other son hated the idea of just a countertop microwave in a beautiful new kitchen, but given that microwaves don't tend to last that long, a cheap countertop one is a much better idea. If you feel you are short on cabinets, I would move the trash bin out of the cabinet. That is heresy to some on here. I think having trash in beautiful cabinets is gross.
