POLL: What's your kitchen worktop material?
Comments (127)Another vote for Dekton and Sileston Quartz worktops, use them all the time in our projects as so much more forgiving and low maintenance than granite or marble. Agree that Corian is a good option if you have a large island to prevent visible joins, whilst it has other benefits you do need to be very careful when it comes to heat. Vast range of colours and textures in all types nowadays so the type of material shouldn't limit the effect you want to achieve - be that traditional or contemporary. I am always a big advocate that a worktop is an investment, there is no point spending a large sum on a beautiful quality kitchen and then finishing it off with a worktop that won't stand up to time as well as the rest of the room or cheapen the look - I always recommend to go for the best you can afford....See Moredon’t like new kitchen - please help with colour schemes!!

Comments (4)Hi there, Lovely kitchen! Ok so as your kitchen has a very modern feel I suggest to stick to finding a modern version of an oak dining table. The ones you have picked look very rustic that's not to say it wouldn't work in a modern setting but I think it will work better if you use a more modern style and that will help with your dilemma! For example you could go with this customisable Neptune dining table below. The legs can be painted black: https://www.neptune.com/furniture/dining/tables/hebden/hebden-dining-table-glass-top-painted-legs/ Depending on how much room you have you could go for something like this where the legs are more prominent: https://www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/Dining-Room/Tables/Navarro/2-5372-79593/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxICUm4vY5AIVBrDtCh0IWA9JEAQYECABEgKyBvD_BwE In terms of your seating I agree they need to be comfortable, though I would avoid adding the 'pop of colour' - interior design doesn't really use colour like that! Unless of course you are going to add that colour in other places in your kitchen e.g. paint the island units teal. I also recommend to buy the chairs from the same company as your dinning table, they will have the right heights for the chairs for their own dining tables. It's a small things that makes a big difference when you're sitting at the table :) Or make sure you measure them before you buy. I can confirm Neptune have really comfortable and very high quality seating. I suggest to go for the Miller Dining Chair, which is customisable so you can have black legs if you wanted to and velvet in teal or blush: https://www.neptune.com/furniture/dining/chairs-benches/miller/miller-dining-chair/ If you want to keep the budget lower, Baker and Stonehouse have cheaper alternatives which could work well: https://www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/dining-room/Dining-Chairs/Beckton-Dining-Chair-Blue/2-2838-96206/ Hope that helps? Comments (15)@margretg2 This is true that the majority of shaker kitchen doors have a solid timber frame, if its painted than its usually an ash frame, but the centre panel is an oak or ash veneer. This is because the panel is thinner and if it was a solid timber it could be prone to movement so being a veneered mdf or chipboard means a more stable door. Neptune use a hardwood ply for their centre panels (according to their brochure-also in their brochure they say that they've moved some of their production to a purpose built facility in China) Other factors to look for in a quality shaker frame is along the tenon joints, a cheaper door has a V groove along the joint as this masks any assembly defects and any hairline cracks due to movement that may appear over time. A smooth tenon joint is completely flat/smooth and can be reinforced with dowels to help prevent any later movement. Also consider with timber is how the log is cut. There's 3 main ways timber is cut for furniture. The cheapest timber cut is plainsawn and has the cathedral arch characteristics and is just slices along the length of the log, this is more prone to movement/splitting (but is used with walnut to display the natural woodgrain). Quarter sawn (traditional and modern cut) is a more expensive way to cut logs but is ideal for oak giving a straight grain and is used for quality furniture especially if its to be lacquered. Finally there's rift sawn which is the most expensive cut and characterized for its clean sleek lines....See Moremargretg2
