help! urgent advice re vanity sink unit support/leg

Joiner is making the floating sink shelf which we are tiling but says the 450 depth will need a leg support - which we haven't thought about. 😱
It was going straight into the corner so sink on left with right side into right wall. That side is fine - it's 700 wide in total.
But the left side needs a leg to take the weight and I'm not sure what to do.
Ie if I got say a hairpin leg - won't it look odd just having one on its own?
Should I find 2 legs and use both even though the right side is against the wall??
Where would I find a thin straight black or brushed gold metal leg that is just acting as support quickly (uk)

Would brackets rather than legs do? The bottom image, if one side had a return on so it looked deliberately different then perhaps a leg on the bottom, that may work.

Yes the top one would work - have you any idea where to get something like that though? 🙈

Otherwise I'm thinking a single metal thin bracket would be better than a leg as it's on the left side next to the wc so not as obvious

Hello folks! I haven't disappeared, just had whooping cough (yes, seriously!) with a garnish of gastric flu and torn muscles from coughing fits. So that has severely impeded our efforts (hubby's had it too, and it lasts around 3mths so we're not out of the woods yet!) with our new house (which I now describe as semi-derelict before we bought it) and so had no time/mental energy to properly get updated on what's been happening with you guys. Monica, I'm so sorry to hear what u'v been through, with the RTA & the cowboy tiling / wallpapering on top! (& work always picks worst times to intensify - I just started on a Task Force this week, when shd really still be on sick leave). I mean, a marker?! Seriously?! Isn't it common knowledge / common sense to use a lightly applied pencil? Sounds like u r doing best thing by looking at it as a learning experience. Still, he deserves an honest review somewhere. Anyway, onwards and upwards, I'll look at the lounge link when I've finished this post. BTW I LOVE your artwork. Vivacious, bright and deep - is there an insight there? ;-) And RoRo, wow you've got a lot on your plate! We've been so frustrated with being held back on our projects by health, but u have taken on a bigger scale of project altogether, sounds like it's verging on municipal! U guys inspire me. :-) Thinking of starting a thread on our living room, it's the most 'civilised' room of the house so far, but I didn't take the north-facing position into account when I decided on a colour scheme of turquoise, grey and lime. (Doh!) So far I've made some headway on a concept I'm excited by, but it needs some tweaking so it doesn't feel 'cold' with the blue tone of the natural light. Are you up for sharing some of your thoughts on this??? Hope so. :-)

One possible solution. It gives you the bath and shower in one unit behind the door away from the window as well as the sink and WC of course. Admittedly a little tight on plan at the end of the shower bath but your upper body and arms would be free to move over the end of the bath and into the window recess, and your feet, whether standing or sitting, would always be in front of the WC where you have more space. The sink has plenty of space around it with room for a towel rail adjacent. The sanitary where is all taken from the Ideal Standard website but you could use any manufacturer - the point is it can be done. I would also make the glazing obscure, if it is not already, by using an after market stick on film cut to size. You can get plenty of patterns or just frosted. You could also add blinds as previously suggested. Note: any proposed layout could be affected by the proximity of your existing foul water drainage - just bear that in mind.

Thank you. Yes had to use my powers to persuade my partner :D I'm kidding it was quite easy actually. I was looking at that FC rug actually but the size put me off. Looking at your picture I must say I quite like layered rugs. Need to put some masking tape down to see where they could be placed..I'm struggling to imagine it. Or anything else in fact :) We've decided the sofa will stay at the wall for now. It just feels better. I'll order some white hydrangeas..thanks for the tip I'll look at M&S or Bloom does 3 for 2 too. We have an ornate rectangular golden mirror which I want to test above the fire surround before I look for a new one. Not sure about a coffee table. I was going to wait for the armchair to be delivered to help me see if a coffee table is needed..? Will check out the art and cushions. I guess I do need to order a rug(s) or console so we can go from there..

Hi Jen, good idea re the laundry - it would nicely "segregate" that functional space and open up all the rest as bathroom space. If you go that route, just check with a plumber that you don't cause any knock on issues with running a soil pipe from the back of the WC to the main soil stack (you really don't want those issues!!), and then make sure you do it in a way that doesn't lose light from that window. Regarding custom mirrors - the cheapest way is to get a local glazier to quote to make and install. Assuming it is just a single plain sheet you are looking for, the cost should not be too bad at all. Definitely get the glazier to install - it pays to leave the risk on their side, and they are experienced in handling the material. I've had a few bespoke glass splashbacks go "pop" on me, and there are few worse feelings... For what is a relatively piece of glass, make sure that there are no access issues to get it into the room (awkward bends round stairs or the like), or consider doing it in a couple of pieces. And if you are concerned about getting the best price, ask a couple of people to quote and look online too. And don't be afraid to haggle nicely - any glazier will try and squeeze a little extra margin if they can, so try and get it back! Try the online pricing tool at mirrorfit.co.uk for a quick feel of cost, or any of the other tools online.

Depending on the construction of the wall couldn't you cantilever it? After all you can get stairs where each tread is attached on one side only to a wall - and that will take a lot more weight with a lot more leverage.

I could put a heavy duty L shaped bracket (without an angled brace) which we can bury in the wall before it's tiled over so it can be large ie 400 top and whatever below. But struggling to find one that takes more than 40kg ie if someone leans on it by the sink? Some of the weight on the back wall and right side will support it but it's just that corner.

@klairi oo yes that could work! I was hoping to bury it in the wall but I wouldn't have to with that. I can just make the front section a bit deeper to hide it perhaps. Thanks.

I've literally spent all day trying to find a plain flat L bracket and all the onea described as being 'heavy duty' don't even have weights on! It's ridiculous. I'm tearing my hair out and need a gin already 😬

Although they do have a chunky angle bit in the corner so I can't bury them 🤔

Other option is a single thin straight leg.

Or I could incorporate a shelf under the sink for towels so it's how to double that up as support and make it look elegant 🤣

But would a single leg look OK? Better than a visible bracket? Trying to find brushed gold but pffff.
Hairpin leg possible but angled 🤔 and one only? Odd?

It’s a shame I’m not near you as I have 2 spare very heavy duty ones for my concrete basin 😢

i like colourhappy’s idea for the L shape although may be an issue with getting extra tiles?

Yes I have thought about a single side panel. It would have to be chunky enough to tile so might look a bit fussy 🤔
I saw the metal legs colourhappy posted but I was doing a shelf like this to save money so didn't want to spend much on the extra support 🤣
On the second gin already. I hate having to try and find solutions to things

Yes, a chunky side panel definitely. I know you were trying to keep numbers down 😢 Most of the legs seem to be sold in twos or fours too

how deep will the shelf be once tiled as I did see a nice clamp leg but not sure it will fit?

It could have been worse, you’re doing well on your second!

Stick it all on Facebook marketplace - that's what I do 🤣

I have found a single hairpin leg I can buy on ebay 😃 - black or gold! Not sure if brushed gold but the tiles behind will be black. And white and the sink unit will be the light/mid grey to match the floor. Although the sink will have gold fittings,im wondering if the leg could be black as its against a black/white tile and I have a black mirror above the sink? Who knows. I have one on my dining table so going to try it begore buying 🤣

The front depth of the shelf is a 3" but I can make it deeper if needed
