I need help with flooring and decor ideas for my through lounge
Comments (12)houssaon I sat with a piece of it on my floor this morning and I screamed to myself 'what am I doing , Ive got rid of an axminster for this ! ' so I went to the shop and have found a neutral brown carpet 80% wool which suits a large rug I have and should bring out the colours in my new suite , I am glad I took the rug with me because the small chair is a near match to the suite, and the rug/ chair look nice together . I was tired and stressed late last night having taken up my old carpet last night in 1 piece in case I ever thought about putting it back ! everything now happens Thursdaywhen the carpet is fit and the dining suite and lounge suite is installed Ill upload. youve asked about my style ? Im going for the stressed look ! no I want a classy look but also minimalistic due to it not being a big through lounge thanks for your comments to date ps anyone want an axminster !...See Morelooking for walk through lounge design ideas
Comments (6)Thank you Carrie, that is really helpful. We originally purchased the larger sofas as I am 6ft 1" and my eldest teenage son, 17, is already taller than me. I also have problems with discs in my neck hence the higher backs of the sofas. I had thought about placing the tv over the fireplace but worried it would affect my neck. To be honest I have thought about putting the tv on a unit against that wall as it does look cramped in its current corner. Since posting this original message I changed the layout of the sofas so the armchair is in the window and the sofa originally in the window is now pulled forward to the middle of the room facing the fireplace. So this gives us a walk through behind the sofa. It seems to make the room more cosy but doesn't make it look smaller. I like your idea of smaller sofas, lighter in colour - our current ones do look bulky in here. Thank you. I am still keen to change the fireplace though- to a similar size but more modern. Thank you for your help Sarah...See MoreHow to decorate/furnish this through lounge/diner?
Comments (21)@sonia I'm leaning towards grey walls too. My bedroom is going to be goose dawn and teal tension (I think!) so I'm wondering about doing the living room in the same greytl bulk buy paint! It's a bit darker than polished pebble though. I like those pics and I have a rose gold standing lamp already... Here with my desk (grey and rose gold)...See MoreHow would you decorate this through lounge
Comments (8)I agree with all the other comments. Go for softer, warm colours on the walls. Not the brightest white, but an off-white. Also, black and red is quite a harsh, contrasting colour combination. Again, I'd go with less contrast and warmer colours. So, if you love a black sofa, go with beige and brown, maybe a touch of burnt orange, as your other colours. You'll create a much nicer, cosier room. Also, I always think it is best to not buy everything at once, and only buy what you love. Not because the shop thinks it goes well together, but because it makes you feel good. Which means that if you love the look of black, white and red, go for it. Even though we all say: don't do it :-D Also, measure! Measure and measure again! If you like a particular sofa, you can use paper or tape to put the dimensions of that sofa out on the floor so it gives you an idea of how much space it takes up. You wouldn't be the first who buys a 3-seater, matching 2-seater and big comfy chair, just to discover that you don't really have space for it. On a personal note: I'm not a fan of matching furniture sets anyway. Will you need a dining table in this room too?...See MoreR Mederick
