Comments (3)I'd buy new and get the warranties ! You can't tell, as you say how energy efficient second hand units are, how long they're going to last before needing repair, and, new ones are really not that expensive anymore due to the online shopping revolution....See More'Best & cheapest way to buy new appliances' - advice please
Comments (3)If you are buying all of these it is probably because you are having a new kitchen. I think you might try your kitchen retailer- it is commonly thought that this route is more expensive but in my experience it is not. Also you must remember that any savings elsewhere often outway the time spent waiting for deliveries or the cost of calling back trades to fit appliances that turn up after the kitchen fit. I would also point out that the kitchen supplier would also take responsibility for ensuring that appliances match. Not long ago someone was showing off their kitchen on this forum- they were oblivious to the mismatched appliances but plenty of people do notice....See MoreHelp: Where to put appliance isolator switches in new kitchen
Comments (6)Any electrical work in the kitchen is covered by part P of the building regs and can only be carried out by an approved and registered electrician or a supervised competent person and then tested afterwards, building control then notified and either a major or minor works report submitted. So i'd speak to a registered electician and discuss what you'd like and he will advise what you can have so the work is carried out safely. I don't know about not fitting the switches above or below the appliance, not heard that before, the only regulation i've seen is having sockets behind integrated appliances, above below or in the unit next to it is fine as far as i'm aware, so long as its accessable....See MoreHelp thinking about where all the kitchen appliances should go?
Comments (22)Dear Ms England. Just saw the layout of your kitchen. It's up to you as to whether you want to have an integrated Fridge / Freezer [ 50 / 50 or 70 /30 ] unit or a free standing one. I personally think that you should lay out your kitchen as follows : You start from the steps going down with the Fridge / Freezer unit, whether free standing or integrated unit, then the oven and Microwave tall unit, then work top, then the hob [ allow for a 600 mm 5 rings burners, then equal work top, then the sink with drainer. It is better for the sink to be over looking the garden. You should also change the toilet to fixed to the external wall and the wash-hand basin and cabinet to be fixed to the wall between the toilet and store. iIf possible you should go for a 3 panel bi-folding doors rather that sliding doors. It's worth to incorporate a 1340 x 1380 mm Velux Integra Electric window over the Dining area which will bring more lifgt to the Living Room beyond, I assumed. You can reduce the floor to ceiling height of the kitchen to 2400mm or 2600 mm and it will save you on the cost of your kitchen unit. otherwise you will need a step ladder to get to the top shelves of the cupboards above the work top. For the kitchen worktop, you can use quartz or granite as solid hardwood get affected by water stains over time and need to be sanded down and sealed at regular interval. Hope that you will find the info useful for your next kitchen planning. Regards Alain B...See Moresarh123
