Bathroom which do you prefer Option A or B?

Which tiling option do you prefer Option A (left, Colour Grigio) or Option B (right, colour Bone). The flooring is quickstep Picnic Oak Ochre.

The tiling will be in the shower area, the height of the boxing in behind the wc and basin and continuing at the same height behind the bath and wall to the right.

We are contemplating perhaps using the flooring rather than tiles for the boxing in. Thoughts???

Well, at the end of the day the colour scheme has to be one that YOU like! For what it is worth, my personal choice would be B, as it gives a bit more contrast with the chosen wood. Overall, a slightly warmer and calmer palette.

B - there's more contrast with the floor tile and it'll be less gloomy once complete. I'd also reduce the amount of tiling shown in your 3D model - unless you really like the fully-tiled look - I find it quite oppressive in a small room so would keep tile to where it is needed functionally. Also, I'd keep the floor tile to the floor only since it is wood-effect - if it was a cool pattern then I'm ok with it wrapping up a wall too, but wood-effect tile belongs only on a floor imho.

Thank you, I’m not a fan of full room tiling either we were only planning to have it full height in the shower area and then half height around the bath and boxing in, the remaining walls will be painted.

What are your thoughts on having the other colour in the shower? I want to space to be restful and sophisticated but not overly bland and boring. Which is why I thought about the wood behind the basin but I take on board what you say it may look a bit random 😊

I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?

Hi Emmeline. yes you can get it to look like pretty much any type of marble. I did a lot of research as my husband will go mad if I change them again - this is the third time - and I decided to go for something really durable. In the course of looking into it all sorts of comments and advice emerged - and I have friend who have marble and granite so feedback from them as well. I know that you can seal but really I just want something I can wipe and not worry about.

Keep it to the one tile for a more restful calm experience. It’s a small space so if you use little bits of too many different colours/surfaces it’ll get more confusing to the eye. You can start with a seemingly bland base but I think that is quite sophisticated in that it’s not going to look overly designed. Less is more for understated elegance. Add really luxurious towels, soap, candles etc to create a lovely space. And don’t skimp on things you touch - taps, shower fittings, loo roll holder - all those touch points add up and contribute significantly to a more luxurious sophisticated experience. You want someone to feel good in there, not to comment on whether that’s two different tiles you used or is it just shadow making the shower seem darker.

Also agree - B! From your photo it looks like the hue works well with your flooring, and the tile also appears to have a luminosity which will help to keep your bathroom bright.
I’m another fan of minimal tiling in bathrooms, keeping only to the areas that need it functionally. Then it’s easy to change the look of the bathroom with paint colours etc

I see you have now come to a decision over which surfaces to tile or not to tile but the headache isn’t over yet!

Option B for me too because it is brighter and works better with the floor which should stay on the floor.

Have you taken into account cleaning around such a bath? And how wide is the toilet area (clearance)?

My vote goes to tile B.

I’ll have to check with the bathroom designer regarding the wc clearance, I was relying on them designing with enough space but there’s no harm in checking.

Totally agree about cleaning around the bath, we’d already decided to go with a D shaped one with more space either side, just haven’t got a design showing the change, same with the tiling, that’s not going everywhere either.

If you want a bit of a difference, you could tile the shower vertically and the rest horizontally, but using the same tiles
