what’s the standard tree at the bottom of the garden?

We are looking for two or three small standard trees 2-3 metres tall.

Hello All, hope you're having a lovely Saturday - just saw Wales win their first Euro 16 match; very happy, now waiting for England. Quick update: cut the grass on a high setting following advice and did some weeding. Decided to jet wash the patio but found that my garden hose had holes in it. Had to dash, in the rain, to Poundstretcher to get a new one. I've never used a jet wash power and had a little taster. See below. Tomorrow, I hope to wash the patio properly but it's hard work. Tommy Turtle's looking a lot better and you can the slabs that I've done so far. Think I need to sweep first as the moss was flying everywhere! A little comparison, of what can be. Hopefully, I will post the results tomorrow. How is everyone getting on with their projects? Keep posting!

Hello, this garden has so much potential, and although it is dull, it looks well cared for, so less prep before you get to the pretty stuff. first thing is to move the washing line, because it cuts the garden in half. I would have it running behind the shed to the tank thing, which I would screen with woven willow. I quite like the silvery fencing, but if you like things to look new, use a garden paint, but avoid the fake tan look. i would the clothe fences, starting with the fence to the left, use vine eyes and wire, to give plants something to hang onto. Next dig a border 1.5 metres wide. Try to slice the turves out neatly then stack them grass side down behind tank thing. They will compost down.Plant climbers every 1.5 metres down the garden. Plant them 45 cams out from the fence. I would use honeysuckle and small flowered clematis as they are easy, use 4 or 5 canes on each plant to fan the strands up to the wire, and tie them in with twine. Then I would beg everyone you know with a garden for spare plants to complete that border, they will be happy to help. for the second stage I would plant a tree just beyond the tank, where it will soften the outlines of the other houses, this could be incorporated into a border along that fence, along side tall, easy shrubs like kerria, lavatera and buddleja, if these grow wherever you are. then I would make generous beds abutting the patio, so that the lawn is at first a grass path before opening out into the garden. It looks sunny, so you have a wide choice, the beds could contain herbs, or grasses, or anything you like, but don't be afraid of height there as long as the plants you choose aren't too dense.. It is really boring to see the whole garden at once, and it will make the patio pretty, so you could even start with this, so you have something nice to look at. hope this helps

Trees can grow incredibly tall and wide 20 ft to 100 ft depending on the species. There aren’t any trees that grow just over 6 feet and no more, unless you try fruit trees that are grafted onto a dwarf rootstock which keeps them small. . However there are some lovel shrubs (multistemmed) that grow 6-10 feet high. You need to check aspect (sunny/shaded) as well as soil type. You can get a tester from garden centres for a couple of quid. You could try Viburnum tinus an evergreen with white or pink flowers in winter. There is Photinia which is also evergreen where the new growth is red and very pretty. Cotinus is deciduous and has lovely purple leaves and frothy flowers in summer.. Lilac (Syringa) is a large very well known shrub with fragrant flowers, although it does tend to spread. My favourite at the moment is Sambucus Black Lace (I’ve just bought one!) with gorgeous Lacey purple leaves and pink flowers. There are so many wonderful shrubs you can plant, but it depends how much time you want to spend tending your garden. The plants I’ve suggested are really easy to grow. Summerhouse should look good although I’m also a little concerned it might detract light from your house windows. However the little viewing window should be a lovely place to sit 🙂. Personally I’d concentrate on the hard landscaping first after the summerhouse is built. Paving next to the house. Get rid of the gravel! (I just think gravel is a bad idea on a slope) and replace with more defined steps but leave a decent size gap between steps and fence so you can pop in a row of plants which will soften the look. Down the bottom you could shape it however you’d like but try and keep a consistent theme throughout, same materials, colours etc. I’m thinking a rockery would look fab where your current curved raised bed is, just needs the right plants ( and a few rocks 😄). Probably best to call a landscaper in for paving or steps but as you say you’re on a budget and if you’re enthusiastic enough then it’s definitely possible to diy it. Might be an idea to wait till spring/ summer. If you do remove the gravel then it might be a bit of a mudslide this time of year. Here’s a few ideas:
