Need a bold color for my kitchen that goes with Dimity

I have a Hague Blue dining room with a Setting Plaster living room. My hallways are painted in Dimity. Now I need a bold color for my kitchen walls. I have old brown wood cabinets so something that can go with that as I don't want to paint them at the moment. I tried India Yellow but it looked horrible with the cabinets. I tried Emerald green but it's crazy bright though I do love it. Any help would be appreciated!

Good question !!
I tend to use one priority pallet of colour choices and replicate them over the same floor, in deferring combinations ... to me that helps me keep the ability to swap furniture from place to place easily and keeps one main theme going through that floor, or sometimes the whole house.

Re the kitchen -when /if you do decide to paint the wooden cabinets -I’d strongly suggest you book a pro painter to do it !
My painter ( hi Steve !) is brilliant and can repaint my kitchen cabinets in two days -so including paint, it’s less than £500 for a superb job. So maybe you could introduce The Hague blue into the kitchen cabinetry ? Wall colour choice would depend on the amount and type of light - warmer colour if mostly northern light coming in - paler choice if mostly southern light generally works !

Could you share a pic of the brown wood units? My first thought was a duck egg blue as it does sit well with brown.

That sounds beautiful! Would love to see a picture. I had to make a decision as the plasterer was in today so decided to remove the rail. I think it will be fine as it will give the room more height and the wall that will be papered is small compared to the room as a whole. There is a picture rail in the hallway and front reception but not in the study so not in every room already.

Hi Shebby. I can see your preferred colour palette in your ideabook:) perhaps consider the clear eames, they will visually take up less space. Have you thought about having the tv and fish tank on one longer unit or even hanging the tv on the wall over the tank? I probably wouldn't go for 2 sofas. Perhaps one chair in front of the unit angled towards the sofa? You could have an orange (!) upholstered footstool in the middle to use as a coffee table/extra seating. Perhaps add a console table and lamps behind the sofa. As before I'd zone living area with a rug and for dining use either a mirror or art on the wall to zone that with a big vase of flowers or something on the table. The best thing to do is cut out paper templates of everything you want and place them in the room and see how it is when you walk round them etc

Hi again appydaysdevon Taking your original ideas and wallpaper choice into consideration, I have created you a colour scheme for your kitchen. I would paint all your walls with Dulux Just Walnut to give the kitchen a fresh, neutral base. Then paint your window wall with Dulux Pebble Shore. Having the darker shade on this window will add depth and create the perfect back drop for your dark navy blind. You could always dip paint your barstools to add extra colour and personality, as shown in the image below: I would recommend you buy tester pots of the colours first, and try them out in your space and make sure you are truly happy with them before going ahead and purchasing the full tins. Like the above comments, I find that it would be better to make a feature wall of another wall rather than the one covered with units as it makes either the kitchen area seem out of place or the rest of the room as bland. I think painting the wall with the door and lamp shade on table would make a better feature wall where you could go onto add murals/stickers to add a bit off drama if you like. with regards to colour, it depends on your style, whether you want to opt for bold bright colours, neutrals or more muted pastel colours.

OnePlan - can I ask - is your decorator a general decorator or a specialist kitchen painter? I’m in the East Midlands and have had a few quotes over the last couple of years to paint my kitchen from people advertising as kitchen painters - and they’ve all come in just short of £2k! (My kitchen is one line of cupboards - not huge!).

2k sounds like a decent amount for a medium sized kitchen, as prepping&sanding requires a lot of work.

And wall color, how about Lulworth Blue, Hazy or Light Blue?
