many thanks - my recollection is that lighted mirror was hung over the plate mirror that had openings for mounting and electricity.

I have just gone through this process. My plumber and the specialist tiler each made the same points: (1). Around the "heavy water flow" areas, mosaics are higher risk. The weakest point for water getting in is the grouting. If you use small tiles, you maximise the chances of water damage simply because there is more grouting. (2). Very large wall tiles make their lives more difficult. I used huge wall tiles (90cm X 30cm) and they both said that those very large tiles are more difficult to ensure a completely flat surface. The plastered walls are never completely flat and even and it is easier to adjust adhesive levels with more regular sized tiles. Not a reason to avoid massive tiles (although they seem to be more expensive) but just be aware. On the upside, there are fewer grout lines, so less likely to get water damage! (3). If you get a heavily textured tile surface, it is much more difficult to get a really clean tile cut when they need to trim them. Can result in higher wastage as a result. So, overall, I'd avoid mosaics other than as a trim in bath or shower areas. To keep costs down and make the job faster, go for a smooth wall tile no bigger than 60x40cm. Or ignore all this and go for what you love!

Hi all guess what the bathroom still isn't finished but I put some accessories in it and it is already looking quite different. The photo doesn't do it justice it looks better in real life. It looks quite pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately I have bigger problems than how it looks. Do any plumbers know if this shower is access compliant? It has no cut-out or thermostat. You have to control the shower with the bath taps so there is a high risk of scalding. Considering this is a specialist company for mobility I find this pretty shocking. You can't shut off the water other than the taps. Also the temperature fluctuates as there is no thermostat. This is the pipework and electrics below does anyone know if this is legal? See how near the pipes are to the cables??? It seems a bit precarious to me. I am worried about the cables getting hot or wet. Thanks everyone for your support and wish you all a Happy Christmas.

Switching the sink and loo seems a good idea to give you a fantastic vanity area with storage above to reduce the clutter. Since your entrance door is angled it won’t be the first thing seen on entry. Your idea of removing the air vent from the window - what is the plan for it’s replacement? It’s doing an important job of dehumidifying the room and a replacement will be required to maintain the pristine ceiling and grout! We recently refurbished a downstairs loo - lots of fantastic independent bathroom showrooms here in Hertfordshire. We had amazing ideas suggested to us ( some with amazing prices). We used the concepts from the very expensive design ideas with slightly less pricey option. We would not have thought of these ideas without the help of the experts, and they identified snags in our initial design that would affect the surface lines and finish that we didn’t know existed!

I think you could change the shower enclosure and tray quite easily. Grouting can also be spruced up by scrubbing with bleach and a small brush/toothbrush. Leave it for a few minutes and then scrub and rinse. Tile shops are full of beige/brown tiles so I’m sure you could find similar in case any get broken. If you want a good choice of showers go to either a bathroom specialist or a plumbers merchant (no showrooms but huge range!). I’ve never used bushboard but it looks good. They’re like big sheets of waterproof boards to line the shower with. Yes a full refurb is expensive. Mine cost £6000 all in, phew! This is bushboard and it comes in several shades.
