Aluclad front door ....decisions decisions
Comments (0)I'm probably overthinking things but I'm have a front door dilemma... The architects concept for the entrance to our new house is it to be dark, enclosed and protective so when the door opens it reveals a very light space with a full height corner window showing views over the garden to sea and mountains. I love this concept but there's something niggling me! The front door is planned to be Black Aluclad with vertical lines mimicking the cladding . I'm concerned that the vertical indented lines will just look false. We will use this door a lot, as will out big dog who like to try to open doors.. I'm worried if the Aluminium cladding will not stand up to claws, at least wood can be sanded down and repainted. Does anyone have an aluclad door, how does it stand up to wear? As I'm writing this I'm seeing that the problem is the type of door. There's a niggle saying I'd prefer it to be a wood clad door continuing the larch cladding but I'd have no idea where to start as the window company don't offer anything like this. Any ideas that may help clear my total indecision?...See MoreWide Window Help!
Comments (19)You could paint the TV unit doors and either the uprights or the shelves of the hi fi unit the same colour to help get cohesion. You have a grey sofa and the grey uprights so colour match them. Do the same with the other shelving unit. You then are creating a neutral palette on which to build other colours. Re the windows, the room is quite masculine, so either keep with that theme and go for wide slatted venetians, or soften the room up with long sweeping curtains with the fabric picking out your highlight colours. For privacy you could put film on the window, but it looks as if you have greenery outside so perhaps you don't need it.....See Morebay window colour. white windows right decision?
Comments (11)Thank you guys for your advice took it on bored. Gonna paint the bay eventually called rock salt creamy with slight bit of grey. The windows look so much better. Then think the drive needs to be on the list after someone had an accident with the wall....See MoreWindows! Under-cabinet ones in kitchen? Do I need side ones in snug?
Comments (7)Hi Emily and Jonathan! Thanks so much for the feedback. Emily - I didn't manage to attach the image that shows the new parking we'd have - see new picture I've just uploaded above of a birds eye view with additional hardstanding driveway in the front garden. - thanks for the vote re tall narrow west window! I'm coming round to the idea though my husband is unpersuaded and thinks will interfere with furniture too much. I think one in the corner just before the family room could work really well. Jonathan - yes the kitchen hasn't really been designed at all yet, the architectural technicians just showed the hob and sink for a rough idea that that area is the kitchen. But we can do what we like with the space really. There are already 2 sets of patio doors on the back of the house though so I think we can't really justify a third! (It might not be clear on the plans but the dining room ends in a modern glass box with heat resistant glass and within-the-upvc-double-glazing-blinds, which includes patio doors ?bifold depending on budget. Then the snug has more standard patio type doors and will probably be the main back garden route.) - generally I think we'd err towards a peninsula rather than an island, not for any real reason just tend to prefer the look of them. So probably a peninsula with a couple of bar stools, coming from the garden side of the room at the junction of the kitchen / dining area, and finishing where the island ends now. Think @Emily sounds like I haven't explained myself very well re eventual layout with train room - see attached jpeg to see what it will end up as (we haven't got the plans drawn this way for planning application, but the aim is to end up with this at the end of the works)....See Morekeiblem
