Spare bedroom decoration dilemma

I am finally tackling our neglected spare room 2 years after moving in. It is East facing with a large bay and a 'dressing room' area (from which we have removed wardrobes to use as a music room). The new carpet will be a neutral/brown colour (see strip in pic) and curtains replaced with Roman blinds (probably cut velvet). I was planning to paint the main room F&B oval room blue and fully wallpaper the dressing room in pastel peacock/flower patterned paper. My husband however thinks the blue will be too dark and the dressing room will look crazy. Would welcome thoughts and to hear from anyone who has used oval room blue in a bedroom. Thank you!

Since it is an east facing room I doubt the oval blue will be too dark but maybe try a paint swatch on the wall to see what it looks like in the light. With the wall paper if you make sure it links one colour from the main room e.g the blue paint it won’t look too chaotic.

Thanks so much - I absolutely love those colours and the idea of name above crib! A cot will fit in the recess but I think I prob prefer it at the end of the bed so I can easily peek in. To be honest whilst I want to paint etc, we know the furniture is fairly short term. We have some older relatives who live further afield and I want them to have a comfy bed to stay in for the time being since baby will be in with us for a while - we know that in a years time we're prob looking at converting the garage into a spare bed though just no time/money to do that at mo - but def want babba to have run of the nursery and lots of floor space once they're crawling! As for the bedsides they are actually holding everything baby related clothes wise at the mo as no wardrobe in there I was thinking about adding some picture ledges between the windows too for outward facing books to add something to the walls and maybe vintage animal a-z flash cards above the head of the bed?

It's a great size and I love the idea of grey. Why not paint the two recessed areas a darker grey to make them appear deeper. Maybe Farrow and ball, Purbeck Stone 275 for the recesses and the rest of the walls Ammonite 274. This will make it feel much more light and airy and create some more interest. I think the furniture looks fine where it is. Make sure the bed is central between the door and the window. I would then make a feature of the chimney breast. Either add a photo wall or a large mirror, or series of smaller different sized mirrors to add inetrest and bounce the light around. Then some artwork above the bed to introduce as splash of colour. If you could stretch to it a light grey carpet or painted floor boards would finish it off! Hope that helps, good luck

It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. So which room next?!

Hi, Use a rug that will compliment the rooms colours, I think it is best to be able to see this feature, here is a photo of a rug that is being used to compliment the room and not hiding it under the bed! I agree with minnie101, I prefer one rug rather than two. Hope this helps!
