First Time Buyer - Project Planning

My husband and I bought our first home, which needs lots of works to it.

Does anyone have a project planner/tracker on the best order to renovate the house?

We have already stripped the whole house, so no more junk! 😊 We have the plumber coming in next week, and the electrician the week after.

But we welcome any ideas or suggestions on managing this big project and suggestions on next steps and order of jobs.

Hello Jakhya,

How exiting! Honestly I don't think you can beat a good spreadsheet! HomeBuilding and Renovation is also a great magazine/website for talking through details of most renovations so this is a good place to start for a broad understanding. However, trades like to work in different ways so just ask! They've done this a few times before

Decent laminate worktop suppliers that I'd recommend are Axiom, Egger, Prima, Odyssey and Omega. Between the 5 of them they sometimes have similar designs so look at each one to see what lengths they offer as some are 3 metres, some 3.6 and some 4 metres. You need to work out which is cost effective to avoid waste. Google the images. There are some great choices and most of them will post you a sample free of charge.

Here's a thought - I have two teenage kids and I have never known them or anyone elses kids to play in a "playroom" for more than half an hour especially on their own - they always gravitate to where you are! and will end up building lego on the kitchen table etc. and in the end you are happier having them "in sight" (Unless there is a host of other kids at your house as well.) So my advice would be to not lose valuable space to a designated playroom. Think about the activities you and your partner enjoy too! Do they need some designated space? It could be a room where a lot of toys are stored, sure (and its nice to close the door on it) but could it also be a room where the piano/craft table/office/homework desk/drum kit etc also live.

Would you post an upstairs plan please. Also a pic of the front. The reason to consider the whole house is that if you consider all the options now you won’t do something now that might limit your options later.

It depends, sometimes they get trade discount and have a deal with particular shop. Do your research and I think online Victoria plumbing is a good place to start.
