Can a walk on roof light have ventilation too?

I’m looking to refurbish the outside of an existing basement with a large light well going up to the garden, with barriers around the well. These barriers take a large chunk of the garden space above.
Can I replace these barriers with walk on roof lights with enough ventilation for the basement room below?

I'd think the shaft is for fire escape from basement. Are you sure you can cover it?

I’ve just spoken to building control and I need to leave it there with a smaller barrier around it perhaps, unless anyone knows of any other solution? Thanks!

The first problem you have is that your downlights are floating in free air in the kitchen area - the beauty of sketch up! The rake of the ceiling will limit the choice of downlight if you wish to avoid glare. Also the recess depth will be an issue because of the insulation requirements and the need for the light fittings to breathe - contrary to popular belief, LED's create a lot of localised heat within the die (the bit that creates the light) that has to be moved away from it via a heatsink, in order to continue working for the long term. The heatsink dissipates the heat into a ceiling void when recessed - if you have insulation all over the heatsink, then it cannot do its job and your fittings will suffer early termination. You can choose a chandelier with a limited drop or a shape to suit the space you have available. Most importantly, think about your budget and the style. With LED decorative lights there are no bargains! Oh, and try to make sure you go for a dimmable fitting as most people buy a light from either a brightly lit shop or having never seen it lit, when installed it is either too bright to be used for it's intended purpose or it is too dull. Personally, I would recommend a rectangular pendant over your dining table and matching family style circular one over the breakfast bar. Paving for outside - I think grey limestone? They wanted to put the black stuff as shows less marks but it’s a bit harsh so not sure. Getting samples today apparently Just not looking forward to keeping it clean as he messed up and originally told me it was slate (rolls eyes) Just another issue to add to the list! I have to decorate everything myself as the OH wont let me pay for a decorator as I can paint. Boo. It’s just getting the will to do it now, ha ha. Can’t wait for it to be all done though as just want to enjoy it and have some weekends back ;0)

hello ok so we have another choice now: either:: 1.5 m x 2 m flat roof lights or 1 m x 2.5 m i wondered if nayone has any photos of how this would look / ideas on what we should consider? the room will be roughly 6 m wide and 4.5m long and the roof light windows will be lengthways in the room.

If they are parallel then I'd say they need to be same size. If they are perpendicular or on opposite sides of the room then I'd say you could get away with different sizes.

is it possible to dig another opening to the front of house? that's if you want to use that space as internal. Another option could be to cover the opening with two parts (glass and a metal hatch). I'm confident this could be done with some smart designing.
