Privacy restored by blinds

We bought a house on a very busy main road, with an awful outlook and have spent 7 months struggling to come to terms with it all. Bereavement in the family has meant it was a long difficult winter but today we finally made progress.
Slatted blinds at front window. We will keep them arranged as shown which perfectly blocks the view of the road and the view of us! Bit still let's in daylight. We'll just draw the curtains as usual at night.
So relieved, it finally feels calm and cosy in here.....despite the terrible 70s decor.

curious. can you control how many slats you open? have you a link?

Hi Mike, no sadly not, it's a make do situation because we needed needed privacy at street level. I have just flipped the bottom slats to point the other way each by hand. Then we leave them like this and don't close the blind at all, we have curtains which we draw across at night. It works for us as didn't want full shutters, we have a gorgeous view of trees (above the 3 rows of traffic!).

Hi Tracy, if you're after the best of both you can get shutters on a gliding track (see below) which look really nice but note that this can be quite an expensive option. Alternatively you could vertical blinds or even rollers which can be kept out of the way when you want the window exposed or even hung outside the recess if required. Whilst it is commendable to be looking at architectural solutions to your problem. I feel a lot of these issues could be remedied through thoughtful garden design and a complimentary landscape scheme. Whether you are looking from the property itself or from the approach to the property, there are many ways that these views can be framed or softened by the use of specimen trees. I would be interested to see a more comprehensive plan / visual so I could advise you further.

We do that too, a tip given to us by our son who lives on a busy road in west London. Venetian blinds with wider slats used this way, look from outside convincingly like shutters, which would be far more expensive.

Great solution. As alternative - have you considered double curtain poles? Thus, instead of blinds you can hang net curtains or voile and still use your standard curtains. This helps to control your privacy 24/7 and adds more coziness to your room.
