would you paint these cabinets?

I was going to paint these cabinets but am having difficulty choosing a colour. I’m now wondering if I might not even bother as sometimes I even think they look ok as they are but other times I think they look awful, and wondering if painting them will make them look worse! I was also going to get new worktops but have decided not to as there is nothing wrong with these ones and they are so easy to clean (again couldn’t decide what would look best). Also, I’m wanting to keep the wall tiles as I like them and they are also easy to keep clean. I will be getting new sinks though. The floor tiles will remain as only just had this done. Anyone think I should paint the doors and if so what colour would you recommend, and what else do you think should be changed?

Took me nearly a year to decide whether to paint or not but finally done. Just need to get new fridge freezer now. Got new worktops and sinks and did the utility too to use up the worktop. Glad I didn’t waste money getting them sprayed as hubby made an excellent job hand painting them.

If you are getting a new sink you may need to swap the worktops depending on the size of the new sink. If you do swap the sink, then worktops, it may then be the case that you may think now is the time to do the doors too. It all has a knock on effect.

So if you do change the worktops because of a different new sink size then take it all into account colour wise thinking of the doors.

The doors are in good condition and look nice but i always tend to think of oak shaker doors as slightly dated. A nice pale green door would work well.

Thanks, I would hopefully try to find a sink that would fit the original cut out, otherwise I will have to get new worktops. My husband is a fan of anything green and one of the colours we had considered for the doors was F & B Drop Cloth which does look a bit green , I just wasn’t sure if it went too well with the tiles.

- sorry to use your space Lucy but can't find a way to "im" Elizabeth re her question. @Elizabeth, in this photo, I hand traced the wall area with the polygon lasso tool, placed that on another layer, selected a color and filled with the bucket; then with the mask still selected, I tuned the color in via the adust menu for hue and saturation. I like to reflect colour on some ceilings especially if there is crown moulding (coving) which kind of frames it up. Especially bathrooms and children's rooms where l would also add soft clouds, luminous stars or anything that would make them happy. I also like to paint a dark coving around some white ceilings in a room with dark furniture or flooring.

The tiles are fairly neutral so any green would suit. Green is becoming a very popular colour for kitchen fascias.

Yes I would paint them, or more accurately get a decorator to paint them! Spraying could be an option too. My friend has a similar oak kitchen which she is going to get painted to freshen it up and bring it up to date.

Hi there, I completely sympathise with your situation and hopefully this can help you. The kitchen style you currently have is a shaker door and this is still very much in fashion. I believe if you want to give your kitchen a new personality without causing too much expense and hassle, I would paint the doors to a light colour and change the door handles. Blues, greens, beiges are all in right now so it’s really down to your favourite colour! I have attached some photos of a kitchen with a dark worktop like yours. Have them professionally sprayed. This way you will get a great finish and they will look like new and it will last. The guy who did mine took the doors away, prepped and sprayed them with a proper laquer. He also fitted new handles and it looks like a new kitchen. Brilliant job. Could choose any colour we liked and he would match it. I did have a new sink and worktops but regret not changing the tiles.

I agree with Beverley, professional spraying will make it feel like a new kitchen. Imo changing the tiles in the splashback will also make it less dated. I had a kitchen painted 10 yrs ago, from beech wood that had gone yellowish to a pale gray/blue. It was well worth it. Everyone thought I had bought a new kitchen. Using correct prep and paint makes it just as easy to clean afterwards.

I think I'm one of the few who likes the wood as it is. I would happily potter in your kitchen! If anything you could consider a new wall color - a stronger one. I think the current paleness is taking away from the smart, and still attractive benchtops, cupboards and natural tile.

Transformed! - all of the colours (floor, cabinets, tiles, worktop, walls) go so well together now. (Personally, I didn’t think the original wooden cabinets and flooring were a good combination). Well done and thank you for sharing your “after” photos!
