utility and shower room layout

Hi,
I am in a 3 bed semi detached property and will be doing a 5.5m kitchen extension. I have a 2.97m by 1.92m existing kitchen and I want to convert that into a utility and shower room. My dilemma is should we have a common door for both and get into the shower room thru the utility or have a stud wall in between and keep them separate . Also how should I divide them .. 50/50 or 60/40 . Any ideas or layouts are more than welcome.

we have a very similar size room that we're making into a shower/utility room. due to location in the house we don't have an option for separate entrances. we were originally planning a pocket door to separate them, but actually have decided we like it being one room. In our old house the laundry cupboard was in the bathroom and it always worked well for us so we're sticking with it.

This is the layout we're going with (drawing is not to scale!), it's a 1.2M walk in shower with a stud wall end that creates the 1.6M utility nook with sink. Our soil stack is already in the corner where the toilet's going so that influenced the layout a fair bit.

As this will be our only downstairs loo we may decide to house the washer and dryer with doors in front so its a bit nicer for guests but we're not too bothered really so might not.

Thank you so much Becci . This does make sense . We may end up doing something similar. Would probably just add more utility space as I always need cupboards and have loads of ironing to do.

Referring to OnePlan's point about the space between the machines and the sink, l would avoid the cupboarding doors concealing of the machines and anything in betweem them. Should there be need to pull out the innermost machine one could first remove the other one making it easy. As for crouching space, just make sure the porthole opens on a right sided hinge so that the door swings onto the window wall and it should be fine too. You could always find a narrow rectangular basin to save space too.

I'd get as much storage as possible out of it. I do say keep all the plumbed items as close as possible to each other. You have room for more storage. So i'd go with the washing machine under the unit with a corner cupboard for storage. Then the sink unit with another floor to ceiling cupboard for brooms etc. Shelves in the middle. So either this:- The cupboard marked Slimline is so that you have room for all the pipes to be accessed on your Megaflo, if you put a larger cupboard in you'll close the gap, so I marked it as a cupboard, but you may have room for the Fridge Freezer there instead. You have to allow 650mm on cupboards for the plumbing behind and to adjust for walls that aren't true. So if you went with 650 Unit on the left ( above pic ), then 850mm for your door and another 650 to allow for the Fridge Freezer you've used 2150mm , 5mm ( not a lot ) than you already have, so i would be wary of trying to make the room smaller. Obviously the 650mm is an allowance and you would fit those items in, but it does soon get used up.

Assuming the plumbing can't go all the way into the porch (and runs along the left), I imagined this: Instead of opening up the complete kitchen-dining wall (probably loadbearing), enlarge the current doorway and have a 'window frame' installed to open things up. No separate utility in this though. And is the door on the side the only door to your garden? I've simply added one, though french doors in the dining would most likely add more value. And with some extra cash you could open up the dining-lounge wall too. And close off some of the hallway to gain storage space under+near the stairs.
