Second wall removed?

Was a second wall, perpendicular to the one that ran the length of the house removed also? It looks here as though one closing off the kitchen from the dining was removed. Gorgeous renovation, thanks for sharing!

thank you! yes, we really opened up the main floor so the 2 load-bearing walls were removed as well as another small wall at the back door.

I was also going to suggest carving a high top window out of the wall (friends have done this but put a modern leaded glass window in) to put glass in would be the cheapest option. Alternatives:- Sun tunnel (depends on the roof above but worth checking out) Also, We had our previous lounge that had internal bifold doors we could open up to let light in and at night, close for a cosy feel. You could also look at sliding screens (Japanese style but modern) and also have bifolds with glass so they let light in during the day but still give you privacy. Best solution for the most light

Hi Natalie I guess it really depends on budget. Do you want to pay for an extension? The cheapest option would be to leave kitchen as is but create a U shape with a peninsular where the kitchen / diner wall is currently. If you don’t use the conservatory because it is too hot / too cold you could remove it and have bifolds where the existing doorway is into conservatory and have your dining table there opening into garden. If you have the money and it’s a good investment in your area then go whole hog and build extension!

Considering removing kitchen wall that separates kitchen from hallway

Combine the living room and kitchen by taking both walls out and going open plan. Then as previous comment add a door to the hallway for separate bedroom wing. Just doing the kitchen wall will feel odd and make it like a corridor.

Brillo Pad? I’ve used them for all sorts of cleaning jobs and it works very well. Good on saucepans, oven racks and glass. They are steel pads impregnated with a soap.
