Gardens landscape design

any idea on how to deal with small slopes?

I’ve just moved in and desperate to get stuck in with the disgrace outside my front door!!
I plan to pull up the weeds and replace with white pebbles, and pretty plant pots, only problem is the more weeded side is on a slight slope. Hard to see in photo I know. Any tips on filling it please?

I would fill it with almost zero maintenance plants that won’t get too big.

Plants in pots can be pretty high maintenance. I agree with Jonathan that planting small shrubs may be a better option. Depending on how sunny/shady the area is you could also plant Hebe and Ferns.

Thanks. It's quite difficult to judge the space from the photo angle. I'm also unsure as to whether you're just altering the layout or furnishing and decorating? My thoughts anyway. I'd turn the bed 90 degrees and have it in the top left. I'd move the cabinet with the flowers to the bottom of the bed. Swing the wardrobe round so it's on the right hand wall. I'd buy a tall unit to place in front of the bed to house a tv, obviously allowing enough space for someone to get into bed, something like the one from interiordesignideas. I'd have a 2 seater sofa in the bottom left with a small chair facing the tv unit and a small coffee table. I'd take off the end of the kitchen worktop (put a new trim on the end) and add a small space saving table. If you are refurbishing I'd try and get wardrobes that do not look like a traditional wardrobe ie something similar to your cabinets

I think a ceiling to floor curtain across the garden wall would look lovely at night, although presumably youd want it open during the day, so you'll need space at either end of the wall for it to sit when it's open. Also I don't see this as a focal point exactly, more a backdrop. What do you want to do in your living room and how many people will be using it at the same time? Also maybe you could post some inspo pics of your ideal style?

Hi Faith Exciting project! We’ve renovated four Victorian houses and been delighted with the result. Based on your plan I would probably extend onto the lean to footprint. You could leave the loo where it is and have a utility area / boot room / muddy access just before it. I might remove the jutting out part that I think is the old outside loo. Lots of glass in the roof and build generally should bring enough light back through to the room marked dining. You would then have space for an L shaped kitchen coming from the right as you walk through the door from dining to kitchen. The LHS of the room could be new dining and incorporate some China and glass storage that side too. Have fun- will be beautiful.

Decking is one of the cheapest options, but it doesn’t last long. Mine started to rot around the edges after 8 years, but it may do the job for a while until budget allows. Another thought is gravel contained within wooden edging. It may be a bit difficult to walk though, but again pretty cheap. With the drain cover you could cover with the gravel and then sweep it aside when access to drain is needed. With decking we actually built a hinged door over the drain within the deck. Now we have laid porcelain tiles and we had a drain cover that incorporates the tiles so it is “sort of invisible” and it can be lifted to gain access (see below). I think you idea of plant pots is a great way to tart up a concrete patio, add an outdoor rug (they are weather proof) and some garden furniture.

Yes - I would plant straight into the ground as the plants require less care and certainly watering. That said, bear in mind that beside a house wall the soil will not get as much rain as if it were in the open and the bricks will dry the soil out more quickly. If you are weeding, then go the extra mile and dig in some well rooted farmyard manure at the same time. It will feed the soil and plants and help retain moisture. You can always top dress the soil with white pebbles after planting up if you like as well.
