quartz/ marble worktops what’s the best colour

I am wanting to put either quartz or marble worktops in my new kitchen, I was thinking of a light colour as my kitchen is not well lite.
I’m concerned about whether light colours keep their colour, do they get stained when you spill things on them, how well do they last , is the material easy to clean.

Marble is beautiful but it does stain and can be damaged by acidic items like lemons. I would go for quartz or even granite which are a lot tougher.

Marble is porous. As an alternative look at Quartz (as you suggest), Pietra solid surface and solid laminate

agree with comment above - call Cosentino and they can direct you either to a local kitchen showroom with worktop installed in a colour you are considering or they can tell you where you can view the slabs. i live in Ireland and visited the Cosentino warehouse in Dublin to view slabs - it certainly affected our decision making. we went for lagoon and its great - no problem with staining

I agree - if your considering various greys, the Arenastone Engineered Quartz is defiantly worth checking out too. They have lots to choose from including the new Concreto range which comes in a matte finish. The colours in the picture attached are Grigio Serena (far left, available in a polished finish), Grigio Concreto (middle) and Scuro Concreto (far right).

To be honest, if you are looking for the disadvantages of Dekton, is because deep down you sympathise more with Quartz. End of the day it all depends on which you like the most. As most the answer have said, if you hit the edges with something heavy the Dekton will chip. It is resistant to stain and to heat, which is the main reason people go for it. It means that you don't need to worry about heat or stains. It is a print on the surface, so yes the groves and edges won't have the veins, unless you have the Dekton drop-down mounted as a book, so continuing the veins. But the grooves would not have the veins. Quartz is pretty resistant to stain and you can request the extra treatment. In terms of heat, it is quite resistant but temperature shocks can make it crack. So cold to hot, or hot pot when the surface is cold. It is still a bit porous so I wouldn't push it too much with the stains. Good luck with your project!

I was unsure of a black hob on white worktop however since my units are carbon/graphite it does help it blend in better. I do think if I had all light units it would make the hob stand out perhaps too much! Sorry, not the pic of a white hob....... I have never actually saw a white hob!

Hi there! We would love to offer our advice on this query.

Marble is a naturally porous stone so can be more prone to stains if not treated properly. Saying that, the stone is remarkably heat resistant!

Alternatively, Quartz has a much less porous nature and is considerably more stain, scratch, and heat resistant. We have a great blog on it here which you might find useful!

I have white quartz on the worksurfaces around the kitchen and carrara marble on the island. It depends on how careful you are. The marble is very delicate but beautiful. The quartz looks quite plasticy next to it. I prefer the marble but would maybe go for a honed finish next time. Polished marble is more beautiful though! Personal choice. Look at as many examples as you can first.
