Quartz vs Solid Surface
Comments (3)My mum has a galaxy quartz worktop. It looks amazing. It needs polishing once in a blue moon to keep it super shiny (use a special product) and is generally tough wearing. She does though use heat protectors more to keep it looking new and it did acquire a chip by a careless fitter but it was underneath. If anything is worth noting is that like marble if you serve food into a plate or serving vessel which is standing on it the food (or even a cup of tea) will turn ice cold in no time. I found it very handy to cool baby milk formula and food which could be too hot as the cooling down time was very short! I have heard that corian is useless - stains, scratches and even cracks under too much heat, all very easily....See MoreHELP! quartz worktop decision....
Comments (11)Hi Sam We regularly use leading brand Silestone in our kitchen designs as Quartz is a popular choice with many benefits. Silestone offer a 25 year warranty whereas Technistone only offer 10 years. Integrity sinks are also an option with Silestone which are seamless one piece Quartz sinks which blend into the worktops. They have quite a range of light shades including the lagoon and snowy Ibiza, it would be worth making a trip to take a look at all the colours. https://www.silestone.co.uk/colours/ https://www.silestone.co.uk/integrity-sinks/ https://www.silestone.co.uk/warranty/ Dekton is another product created by Cosentino, which has the added benefit of being completely heat resistant. They also have a good range of colours available in both polished and suede finishes. https://www.dekton.co.uk/what-is-dekton/ Good luck!...See MoreSilestone vs Apollo granite worktop (or other options)
Comments (2)any quartz worktop is usually not considered as a more expensive than granite. If you want cheaper option and don't mind to stick with quartz, go for a different manufacturer. There is Unistone, Cimstone, Technistone, Ceaserstone... Calacatta design become very popular nowadays so a lot of mentioned above might have such an option....See MoreDekton Worktops
Comments (25)@Izzi Robinson - I had all the same issues as you. Today, I went to one of Cosentino's HQ warehouses in Spain - I am VERY lucky that I live close by, and my kitchen guy installs 70+ Cosentino counters a year, so we were able to go into the warehouse and see EVERY. SINGLE. SURFACE that they make! It was mind blowing. What I will say, is that it is super, super important to try and see them in an installation first. The online colours are off, and the tiny little sample pieces are not indicative of the total slab. I'll attach a photo of the slab of Dekton we decided on - it's called VERA and is very different in real life to online. Secondly - the white calacatta-alikes were a bit too fake for my liking BUT not all of them looked bad. The different textures made a difference to how realistic they were. I currently have a beige Silestone counter. I've had it for 8 years and it's brilliant. I've had no issues with staining (I use lemon juice and a tiny bit of bicarb of soda if it's bad - and have done that maybe 4 times total. I do use trivets and mats and put curry containers on mats first etc, to prevent staining, so I DO take care of it.) I'd highly recommend it as a countertop surface. The other bit of advice is make sure you have a great fabricator - again in Spain I am lucky as there are tons of excellent marmolistas but I do think it makes a difference and that's why some people say they've had issues. I saw Entzo this morning and it was really nice. Rem is also not as bad in real life as you think, but it depends on your tolerance level for knowing it's not 'real'! Here's my Vera. :) It's even warmer in real life than this photo - and this photo is warmer than the official sample on the Dekton page....See MoreSuzanne C
