Door and window colours

Hi all

Would love any thoughts/advice on choosing colours for the exterior of our 1880s red brick semi detached cottage. We are having new timber windows and door fitted soon and I’m having a hard time choosing colours. I’d like something classic and neutral for windows, perhaps Farrow & Ball Pointing or Little Greene Linen Wash. The new door will be cottage style, I thought maybe a blue but not sure! I also have to tie in a render colour for rear extension. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I think green or blue for the door as it goes so well with red brick. Have a look at Celestial Blue by Little Green. Such a pretty colour.

this was true with oil based paints that Dulux satin wood was hard wearing, with acrylic paints you need to do litlle bit of a resarch to find acrylic satin that is also durable. I will always stand for F&B egshell or satin for woodwork is a great choice, but if you looking for something little bit more advance there is a choice.

Maybe try some of the stone colours, this is Serpentine. Or maybe F&B Mouse’s back Are the decorators happy to paint without scaffolding? if not, I’d get the render painted at the same time as scaffolding for a house this size costs thousands At minimum I’d probably have them tone down the yellow on the quoins, window frames etc Congratulations, looks a lovely house!

I also like that colour door. I presume your windows are softwood if you want to paint them otherwise if they are hardwood just apply a finish such as SX70. That’s what’s on mine. Easy to maintain without painting them. I have a decorator out once every other year and a freshening up is all that’s required.

They are hardwood and the paint colour will be factory sprayed before installation luckily! but this is good info for the future and good to know the colour can be quite easily changed.
