We are purchasing a house and the gas range in that house is on an island. It does not have a hood, but instead have a telescopic downdraft system, which comes up/down on a press of a button. We do not like this and want to remodel the kitchen and do 2 changes:
1) Move the gas range back to the counter and keep the island empty.
2) Add the hood on top of the gas range for better ventilation
My question is - can this be architecturally possible? Because the hood will need a chimney. And I assume that there is already is a chimney because the downdraft air has to go somewhere out. So would this change be possible? And how much of a cost I am looking at here?
Maybe from the photos, you can get an idea of the island and the counter top.
