Kitchens Design Dilemma

Hello! I’m looking for colour inspiration for a kitchen splash back

We are having the Ikea Bodarp kitchen, a white Formica worktop and a monochrome floor (and terracotta Formica on the island). I’m being dragged back to white squares with grey grouting but am I missing a truck with a colour?!

I LOVE the sound of your kitchen! The Ikea Bodarp in the grey-green is such a glorious colour, and the contrast with the teracotta is just.... *chefs kiss*. You've done amazing work so far pulling everything together. I personally love those two contrasting colours together, with some further muted, more neutral tones in there to really make it pop and compliment the colours you've already chosen. Have you thought about doing a mood board? They're good fun and worth having a play at. Pull in the colours you've used so far and then have a dabble with the additional colours you're thinking of. Personally, I love that what you've done so far and think it has a huge amount of personality!

I agree with Cathy on this. Glass splash backs without the wood upstands would look great. I've used a company called Decoglaze for these in the past. They are not the cheapest, but they do a fantastic job. If you choose a light colour for the splash back, you'll need optically clear low iron glass. Otherwise the green hue of the glass will change the colour. For dark colours, you can get away with normal glass. As the glass is going behind the hob, it will need to be toughened. I'm assuming from the photo that the job is electric not gas. Have you got under cabinet lighting? This will enhance the effect of the glass quite a bit.

Hi. The kitchen looks great, where did the fridge end up going?! I like the tiles, they will go with the units and the prism shape mirrors the table. I also like the idea of adding a different texture however I don't think the different shades of white work together (on my screen anyway!) so would look for a different shade of white . How big is the veining as choosing a different scale for the prism tile would work? You could also consider a grey grout. I'm not sure my pictures help but just showing a tile laid in a pattern with a veined worktop and sandwiching a black worktop with white units and tiles. I love the angel and boho bench, I've posted that so many times on here! These chairs aren't a wishbone and no longer available (!) but maybe a wishbone could work or something similar in shape? I might also paint the utility door in the wall colour to help it blend in?

Saw an article on Apartment Therapy talking about mirrored splashbacks recently. Had some lovely photos featured, I personally preferred the options where the glass is raised up from the hob slightly. Could you maybe get a piece of the upstand cut to fill the gap? Also having it 'framed' by wall either side looks better to me than it spanning the whole space. I've mocked it up to extractor fan level and to ceiling level (I've guesstimated the tile scale but hope it gives you the idea). We chose to put our sink in our island as it was the best place for it. Our island is very long so it can accommodate the sink on one end with a clear space on the other end for seating - I am personally very against having a hob in the island as it will send splatters of hot oil etc. across the island and people (kids) sitting there. I also think the current trend for open shelves is odd - I always think they just end up looking cluttered (beyond the perfected curated pages of houzz), and everything will get dusty and oily if near the hob. One thing that we did in our kitchen was include a defined tiled area around the island - I love it and everyone comments on it. It may help add that little bit of extra in your design. (please ignore 1) our bar stools - we still need to get 2 more! and 2) the hole on the left where our broken wine fridge is waiting to be replaced!)

Thank you! It’s just so hard to visualise everything when not everything is not in place ! We actually wanted the longer worktop in terracotta but it’s quite a length and my hb was opposed to a join being seen.. white was the only colour they do in jumbo size.

I was dabbling with terrazzo tiles as a splash back to bring in terracotta on that side of the kitchen but nothing is really sticking out to me. I’m just worried that there will be too much standing out.

I shall go do mood boards !!

Of course, my pleasure. Also, rinse Pinterest for all.it.is.worth. Search using 'Ikea Bodarp' or 'teracotta formica' for example and see if you can find specific examples - you might then find a splash back example you love that you might not have even thought of! Even if you did go with white tiles - sometimes less is more and you could always dabble with the placement, maybe herringbone for example? So many options!

For your splashback look on the Premier Range website. They have so much choice it’s a minefield.

Regarding worktops the longest ones are 4.1m. If you can’t see what you want from your supplier then look elsewhere. Next to 4.1m is 3.6m and then 3m

@C C What did you decide with your bodarp kitchen in the end? I'm planning on getting the bodarp kitchen so wondered how it worked out for you!
