Grout for external 20mm porcelain tiles

I am in the process of laying my patio tiles which are porcelain 20mm in depth. Please can anyone advise on a good grout to use with porcelain paving stones.

As a tile importer and retailer, it's very rare for a porcelain tile to crack if installed properly. I'd not recommend juggling your Le Creuset to test the theory though... More and more tilers are using a decoupling matting such as Durabase to take as much movement out of the tile as possible. We also supply flexible adhesive and grout, so with a properly flat floor, it's rare for us to get a call from a grumpy client. We supply a lot of large format "infinity" look tiles, where you have an identically sized anti-slip External version of the Interior tile. Most are 8-9mm, so need a concrete base that mirrors the internal floor. If there is a 20mm version, then a sand & cement base can be used. As for kitchens, always tile the entire floor before the kitchen goes in. This means that the kitchen installer has a blank canvas to work on. It also means that the floor is completely sealed, so the chances of liquid ingress under the tiles (under the units) is pretty much nil. Finally, it also means that if you have any white goods that fail under the work surface, they can just be slid out, rather than having to remove what could be long an heavy lump of marble or granite to get them out. Also the bath filler is very high up but we have a fixed screen to the side and it sits right over the bath waste so doesn't cause an issue as far as we can tell. Sounds cheap. I had the decking on my small patio (13 sq m) removed, type 1 laid (it’s like tiny rubble which stabilises the patio) and porcelain tiles laid, including a special drain cover and grid draining near the house. It took 2 men 8 days to complete it, including the removal of the old deck and base. My costs were Materials (type 1, tile adhesive, drains and drain cover). £500 Labour (8 days). £1600 Total. £2100 The paving I bought separately at £420. Granted the removal of the old deck took a couple of days so that was an extra cost.

Has anyone used R10 porcelain tiles outdoors?

In my work setting we had to replace suspected R10s with R12s on the car park stairs due to the amount of people slipping when it had been raining. But there were potentially other factors at play... narrow stairs, possible greases/oils from the cars, high footfall which may have worn away some of the surface roughness... if your intended surface is flat, low traffic, etc it may be ok. Ultimately I'd ho back to the supplier or manufacturer to ask.
