I personally would not use any brand of eggshell paint on a kitchen cupboard, it is not robust enough for the job. Gloss or satinwood is what you should be looking at. I've always used Dulux, but have recently defected to Valspar ( crown ) at B&Q due to issues with colour mixing, colour matching. We have just painted our utility room using this including plastic pipework. It's holding up great. ( Valspar for wood and metal is what i've used ) - Just get a good all round primer which will be dictated to by the type of cupboard door you have - The Armstead range of primers at Dulux trade centres is great paint.

Hi there! MDF is very porous so if you apply paint straight to it it dries incredibly quickly and creates a bubbled/uneven finish. I believe you need to prime it to seal it first, then sand, and then apply paint. As for types of paint, once primed and sanded I think any will do. Best of luck with the painting :)

The room is actually empty which is why is so hard to know really.. I will be having a light grey carpet . We don’t even have any furniture yet - just some old recliner sofas which we will be getting rid of at some point. It’s a lounge diner, that’s the diner side - I will put up some photos later (in bed now!) I am thinking I want to paint the skirting the same as the walls as well. I will probably have some shelves above the cabinet . I would like a nice big mirror above the fireplace. We like the whole tone on tone look. With different shades of the same colour etc.

I took your advice @alyson38 , @Fran and @Raumtastik and here is how it looks so far. I havent finished painting walls which will be SW Alabaster. I am currently trying to decide if I should do open shelving on either side of the kitchen window (I put some blue painter's tape where it would go) or some blinds (in natural wood looking woven linen, bamboo). It needs something there as it looks kinna blah.
