Tiles against wood - will it look right?

We are building and we were planning on having the entrance wood floor then a few steps up, then tiled floor in the main kitchen/living area. We thought the steps would break up the 2 areas.Unfortunately we are unable to do the steps now. Builder says having the wood against the tile will look ok but I'm not sure? Should we just tile it all instead. Any advise appreciated.

Is there any reason you can't have wood through the kitchen and living as well? So much softer, warmer and more inviting looking than tiles..

My husband prefers tiles unfortunately. We were compromising by having some wood in the entry that leads to cantilever stairs which will be timber too.

This is a question i get asked all the time. We sell miles of Wood Effect Porcelain Tiles for anything from a small cloakroom floor to huge living spaces. Like someone said Porcelain is Cold to touch where as the real thing, not as much. Most of the Builds we supply it to are installing Water underfloor heating throughout the areas its being fixed to so you avoid this problem. With the phenomenal technology being used to create these tiles they are now available in Lengths of up to 1700, they are looking more and more authentic. With hundreds of factories around the globe all giving it their best shot there really are some true stunners that not only fool the eye but the touch too. The positives of Porcelain really outweigh the negatives, no warping, no swelling, no staining or scratching. We once had a customer that replaced her traditional wood with porcelain because it was so much easy to look after and she didn't need to worry about her cleaner using the wrong product and staining it. Be careful with Amtico as they are not all UV protected and can fade. Hi Simone, We can't help but love parquet in a hallway and feel it would work well with the traditional look of your carpet and stairs. What colours are your surrounding wood floors? You're right that parquet wood floors have a mix of tones which could help the hallway to blend more seamlessly with the others. I think it would be such a shame to change the style of the mirror. It's period correct, it fits the style of the room, it's correct for the style and age of the fireplace. Why would you replace it with a modern round one? The armchair is correct style for the room in age I agree that the only thing wrong with it is the tone of colour, it matches nothing. Move it up slightly and balance the size of the objects around it. Please, please don't change it for a modern round one..................it's a crime against 'periodness'!! ....................

Tiles against wood will look ok, it really comes down to the colour and tone of each material. I agree timber is nicer through the living areas and more forgiving if you drop anything on the floor, but married is a compromise. Is there wood anywhere else in the house or just the entrance? Thank you for your response.

The tiles are a light grey colour and the wood is a lighter grain ( see pic)

I am planning on adding some wood into the house to warm the interior a little as I'm worried lots of grey will make it feel cold. Not sure where to add it yet though.

Lots of grey tiles do not look cold. Especially the example you have chosen. If they were shiny, that would look bling bling and cold.. But Matt large 600x600 tiles with a rectified edge will look wonderful. The wood entrance will look good.
