I'd like...help with a long lounge please
Comments (9)Hi. If you paint the end ŵalls either a darker or warmer shade it will go some way to correcting the proportions of the room (Or if you like stripes you could add a striped rug or wallpaper). I must admit I would probably keep the chimney breast whether you change the fire or not, they add character and you can add consoles, cabinets, chairs etc which tend to look better in alcoves than flat ŵalls. I would also use a textured wallpaper in the long ŵall colour to add interest. I think the issue is the lack of furniture in the middle of the room which would make it feel wider. Could you add a coffee table? Is the sofa to scale in the 1st pic? I would pull it away from the ŵall even if it just inches (will help with radiator too, is that the only one you have in the room as it doesn't seem big enough?). I had a look in your Ideabook and it looks as if you want a windowseat? If so, i'd move the sofa so it's opposite the fire and put the armchair at the opposite end of the room and use a rug to define that seating area with the front feet of the seating on the rug. If you want the tv over the fire I'd put it on a tilting, swinging arm....See MoreHelp with lounge diner
Comments (4)Hi Liz, I didn't understand from your description, do you want more privacy in your dining room? even more, do you need more privacy? Any idea should come from your lifestyle and how do you see yourself living in existing space. If you need more privacy, then you can add pocket doors, better with glass If you don't need more privacy but you want to feel inside as in separate room but with an open flow, then you can add panels for semi-privacy. You even could install only left an right part without central part with sliding panels. There is always cheaper option to make it look nicer, you can hang curtains or wide sheer and keep it tightened closer to arch, it will soften boundary for the room and will give it visual understanding that it is separate room. Talking about entrance to lounge, first of all pay attention that you have radiator on that wall and you will need to think where to move it. Here pocket doors will look nice. I wouldn't go for french doors, I don't think you will have enough room for opening. Just try to keep it in one style....See MoreT-shaped lounge diner, please help arrange furniture!
Comments (8)Yes, it's a complete nightmare! Thank you both for replying. We have tried dividing the room with the large sofa, where the smaller armchair is, and the TV used to be on the patterned wall. The smaller armchair went where the TV is. Whatvwe found was that there wasn't much space between the two chairs to get in and out of the kitchen - the chairs are both very deep so they really come into the room . when the chair was where the TV is I always felt like I was missing something that was going on behind me - that sounds silly, I know!! I love the idea of zoning with a rug and a coffee table would be so handy - currently we have to twist right round to reach the tables on either side of the sofa. If you'd have a writing desk where the TV currently is, what would you do with the armchair? At the moment it feels like there are two chunks of wasted space on either side of the big sofa. Yes, yes, yes to the yellow and grey! I love your photos, and it would really lift the dark wallpaper. I bought the cushions for Christmas 2015 and didn't change them afterwards, so a fresh look is long overdue! Thank you again for your ideas, feel free to throw more suggestions around - I'll try anything!...See MoreLounge/Kitchen/Diner/Basement Layout help please Houzz!
Comments (4)Hi Sandi You have a great space to work with, and a lot of ideas for the space itself which is a great start. Ideally it would be best to sit down with a Designer and really dig into what you want from the space, taking time to really figure out how you want the space to feel as a whole. However, to get you started it's easy enough to create a concept design plan of the space from plans you have of the home, so if you'd be interested I'd be happy to take a look at the plan for both the basement and lounge, and send you something over to give an idea of how the design could look / be laid out, based upon the information you've posted above. (Free of charge of course) My email is - Kerrybryaninteriors@outlook.com If you can ping across the detailed plan (with measurements) for the two floors, I can have a basic drawing over to you by the end of the week, to give you some ideas. Speak soon - Kerry...See MoreTahreem Qureshi
