How can I dress up this area?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We have a serious slug problem in the summer. A friend suggested a vertical garden?

Slugs climb, so best to maybe plant something they don’t like such as Trachelospermum jasminoides, Honeysuckle, Clematis, Viburnum tinus, Photinia.

Hello Rosie, Okaaay..... THAT boy needs a hobby and it "ain't" you! Here's what you could do in a subtle way that doesn't necessarily say. "I know what you did this summer" How about a sudden love of a very big flower arrangement... Can be fabulous faux! That way, you can remain aloof and he can jolly well go and get a book and learn something. Better not be floristry.. :))

Thank you so much for your very kind comments and advice! Forzaitalia. I looked up the Fatsia Japonica and really, really like it, great it is evergreen as well. I love acers but the trouble is I worry it may look sparse in winter. I wish there was an evergreen acer! I do love geraniums and have lots at the front, just not sure they work here. As you say perhaps because they are dotted around and not in groups. Jen P thank you v much for the pics, I like the table and chairs image you have put up. I have a table and chairs and have put it on the rockery and taken a pic but am not sure it works. Maybe it is due to the white colour? Of course not sure what do in the winter with it either. I love the waterfall pics but think it could mean excavation and worried about the cost at this stage. Def something maybe for a few years time. Rachelmidlands thank you also for taking trouble to look up pics, I love the red colour of the plants contrasting with the green. I also love the pagoda. This is really inspiring. I wonder if I can try something like this. As for the water feature, I wonder what I can do with the wire as it would have to go round the width of the rockery and round to the electrical point. I also looked up ponds in containers and there are some lovely designs but again I am not sure what container would work, a wood planter, a fibreglass one... Maybe I could try two either side of the rockery? It would be great to put in a fountain to really add some interest but of course if the solar ones don't work in winter that is an issue. Hi Oliver, You have a really lovely space to play with here. You mentioned it is possible move doors, and if that is the case I would consider something like this, where you can make the most of a full length of the wall on the right hand-side. This could create a wardrobe that has space to physically step inside, giving you that lovely dressing room feeling. Sliding full height doors will make the most of the space and if you wanted to lighten it up you could opt for a slightly frosted glass door, that way you don't need to ensure the space behind it is always tidy! Yes they can, the bigger the better.
Here’s one in a pot - it’s evergreen and the flowers are very fragrant. A bit slow growing so buy the biggest you can afford.
