The quick answer is yes you can however there are limitations and other considerations before you should go ahead. 1. Are the existing tiles bonded well? (If not remove them) 2. If the tiles are well stuck you must consider the additional weight of the new tiles. The weakest link in this method will be the bond of the old tiles to the wall. You must adhere to the safe tiling weights, you can find more info at tiles.org 3. If you are going ahead with tile on tile make sure you use the correct adhesive. A cement based adhesive needs to be used and you should use a grippy primer or apply a slurry coat to the existing tiles before you begin. Do not use a ready mixed dispersion adhesive as this relies on one surface having a certain level of absorbency. Consider using ceramics as they are lighter weight and there are also lightweight adhesives on the market. See Tilemaster.co.uk. There are also thin porcelain tiles available starting at 3mm which are a great alternative. If you follow these guidelines you'll be fine. Good luck
