Two sofas - different colours
Hello! I’m after a little advice as I appreciate all the advice given on here and I haven’t found much in the way of inspo online so thought I would pick your minds….
I’m moving into an apartment and getting a lovely Chesterfield reupholstered for the living room. However I’m unsure what colour to go for, as I would want it to with a second sofa I’d have in the room.
I want to ‘future-proof’ the chesterfield as much as possible, so I want to be careful with the colour. I was thinking either a tobacco tan leather or a rich red (probably fabric).
But then I’m not sure what kind of colour for the second sofa (it will be a different style just bought from a store) - I wont want it in the same colour, as it wont be exact, but then I don’t want it to clash… I’m just a bit stuck and struggle with combining colours!
I’m going for a Soho House Mumbai kind of look for my living room - a bit heritage, some rich colours, light patterns and a splash of gold in places. The doors are wood, so I was going to paint the walls green (not too dark) and the floor is beige carpet.
There’s a cushion I have as well that I think will go nicely in the room, so was planning on drawing colours from it - but I don’t think a dark blue will go all that well?

Need help in deciding colour for two designer armchairs I will buy.
Comments (4)Thank you for your input! I can't supply a photo since the apartment isn't finished yet!! I want to make a statement with the two armchairs and that is why I queried which of the colours I mentioned would be best. I presently have two pink sofas which are a great hit but old fashioned and therefore I won't take them with me to the apartment! I thought of blue (jeans colour) or navy myself but am not sure that blue is smart enough for a living room? As to the style, I like it to be modern and minimalistic. Comments (6)Thanks ladies. I like monochrome neutrals, I just don't want the entire house in this scheme as it makes the place feel samey , colourless and therefore rather lifeless and dull. Comments (4)How adorable is that fabric? My first thought was to match the furniture paint to that nice grey-beige of the hares. Or an off white like the dandelion hocks. It would look lovely against the green walls. Or maybe go a dark graphite grey? Or leave the dark wood finish as that will also look good with green. So many options! Comments (10)Hi, I have a different colour in every room, but by that I mean soft or deep colours, not bright clashing shades. For example my living room is a pale green (F&B Cromarty) all over, leading to my kitchen which is a pale duck egg (Dulux Mint Macaroon) and a navy feature wall (Little Green Woad). Not all rooms need a feature wall and sometimes it can complicate your colour choices. I certainly wouldn’t paint your hall stairs and landing in different greys, stick to one colour. Also grey looks lovely in some lights and grim in others. Light is everything as Marylee states. Another thing is that your colour choices need to gel with the other items in the room such as sofas and furniture. I realise having to decorate a whole house can be daunting, but I would concentrate on one room at a time, make up a mood board featuring furniture styles, wall colours, flooring, accessories etc. If you are finding this difficult then start another post for the first room you wish to decorate, share pictures, and lots of people will give you advice. Congratulations on your new home! Absolutely love your style and the soho house you are inspired by! I also love the soho style so your post really resonated with me and my style. I have put together a moodboard for you, it is similar to what I would give my clients at design stage in a project or as part of my low cost online interior design package that I offer.
It is SO brilliant that you are recycling your beautiful chesterfield and reusing it in your new space! I agree with Sonia that a navy velvet sofa would look lovely with a tan leather sofa. I thought I would give you another option here of recovering it with a burnt orange/terracotta linen or cotton. If you wanted something a little more lixe a wipe clean velvet would also work in deeper orange/red. A neutral sofa would work really well next to it and keep the room feeling bright and not too dark and moody as they have done in soho Mumbai. You could also include different tones of green if you wanted to/have space for additional furniture.
Your idea to include splashes of gold would be perfect! Gold accessories/side tables with the green and terrocota/red would give you the warm rich aesthetic that soho Mumbai does so well. Love the idea of adding texture and a more casual feel to juxtapose the rich tones with a natural rug layered over your beige carpet and baskets to store logs next to your fireplace. The rug will also separate the beige and the neutral sofa so the two tones do not meet. Panelling would really elevate your space especially in green … it would look fantastic and bring out the colours in your beautiful cushions - they are really special!

last yearI would think about something like a dull faded terracotta colour for the recovered one as it goes with so many things, virtually timeless. For the other one, I would choose a neutral that belongs to the same family that the wall colours will be and this might be determined by the carpet.
