Any suggestions for Kitchen & Living Open Plan?

Hey!
We are thinking of buying this apartment which is still under construction. I'm thinking of extending the kitchen to create an island but then I'm not sure how to place the dining and living furniture. I prefer to have the sofa next to the veranda but then I don't know where to place the TV. Any suggestions?

Where would you extend the kitchen to ? Would it not compromise the entry. You need space round the door when bringing items in or out, shopping etc. I dont think there is room for an island, perhaps a small peninsula.

The TV would be placed on the wall adjacent to the bedroom access

I agree with many of the suggestions above, especially that there's too much furniture in the living room. You're going to hate me for saying this but I think there's too much clutter and busyness overall for such a small space. I'd radically reduce the number of pictures and knick-knacks in both rooms – especially the living room – and move the ones you keep to less prominent places. I'd also take the coat rack and cookery bookshelves out completely, and replace the busy parquet flooring with either not-busy plank laminate or a simple-patterned or solid rug. Finally, I like trees but that spidery palm tree is hideous IMO.

Well thank you everyone! I've been persuaded that the 100mm gap is worth losing a fraction of space from the living room, so have implemented this change. Also have moved the hob onto the island to make it more sociable when cooking. It's interesting hearing people say about the dishwasher being too far away, as currently we have to walk around a peninsular when you first get into the kitchen to get to the dishwasher (as we haven't moved it) so in actual fact, I think it'll feel closer than we are used to, so I don't think that's something we'd necessarily change. Plus it's only 4 steps from the DW to where the end of the island will I think be. @Townhouse - thanks for the offer, but unfortunately nowhere near harrogate most of the time, but will bear it in mind if we're up that way! @Laura, thanks for getting back to me, I've changed it to the 100mm on the "working" side of the kitchen. I think you're right, and your family has height I could only dream of, when I'm only 5'3! and J & Townhouse, I've also been considering the benefits of having the fridge/freezer closer to the island, and having the pantry at the end. Part of me can't decide what is more useful to have closest! And yes, with the island I wasn't planning on having units on both sides the whole way along, to allow space for chairs/legs to tuck under :)

How about have the kitchen where you want it and a bifold fire door across the opening to separate it from the living room? Would satisfy regs I believe though may not be cheap...

It depends on what sort of 'feel' you like. I like quite neutral spaces with lots of texture so stoney colours, natural leather feels very relaxed to me. Little Greene have some new colour cards out with 'Stone' colours on, all sorted in warms to cools, it may be worth ordering one. They do light and dark versions of each colour so you could select specific ones for each room. They also specify 'accent' colours for the odd wall so all round a good choice.
