What do you think of open plan bathrooms?
Comments (65)I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?...See MoreKitchen/Bathroom Swap
Comments (22)I’ve been drawing to see what could fit where and actually I think there’s room for kitchen living and dining to go in current living dining areas. Would take inspiration from London apartments, I was in Zlondon this week and whilst waiting around I rightmoved the streets around me and there were some great use of spaces, not cramped the high ceilings help that. Think the living area should go in current dining area though, so it’s cozy. You could break through to bathroom to have a recessed sink area or cooker area. Just saying it’s worth playing around on paper since the room sizes allow lots of configurations. Actually that way you’d increase your value probably since technically it could have three beds although it would be so useful to put laundry and storage there. Haven’t explained too well since I’m in a hurry, sorry!...See MoreSwap kitchen and bathroom around - tear wall down
Comments (2)Cost will be affected by whether any of the walls you want to remove are structural. Building regulations might also affect whether you can remove the wall between the kitchen and the hall - I think there are fire regs that restrict that if the building is 2 or more storeys (unless doors off hallway are fire doors), though tbh I’m not sure how that applies to this situation where the kitchen is at the top. Should be google-able though :)...See MoreMaximizing a long, narrow open plan kitchen/dining/living space
Comments (4)Hi Jennifer The plan hasn't attached - could you please possibly upload this again in the comment section so I can take a look for you? :) I have two little boys so I can fully understand the play area section - my two have always followed me around so anywhere and everywhere becomes a play area! It is very hard to contain toddlers to be creative in just one area so I can only imagine making sure the open plan space is family friendly as well as useable for everyone is without a doubt a high priority. Looking forward to seeing the developer image. Charlie @ The Kitchen Lady UK www.thekitchenladyuk.co.uk...See MoreJari L
