Sash & Case - white or black?

This is our reno. 1903 Edwardian red sandstone.

Do we go classic off-white Sash & Case with matching shutters or go dark for a more traditional look?

The bottom pic is of a newly renovated terrace in Glasgow. We would be the only house on the street with black windows. We also live by the sea so wondering if off-white would be more beachy.

Both lovely but I see the black as more urban and the white as more timeless.

I wanted a bookcase that would fill the gap between the chimney breast and window , which is 230 cm in height and 150 cm wide. The bookcase will be used mostly for books as we are trying to create two spaces as the living is open plan with this side being a reading area and the other will have a fireplace and the TV ( see picture attached) We have exposed the metal columns to create modern industrial but elegant look. Minipie, this is a tricky one. The greeney grey would look lovely with your yellow brick or even a more yellowed grey, there are lots of houses where I live with yellow brick and ones with warm grey pale windows look lovely. I recently replaced all of mine and had the same colour inside and out. I went for a warm green grey (F&B Light Grey 17) and the same inside. As most of my neutrals inside are from the same 'hue' family it was ok, but if they had been 'bluer' as you say it could have been tricky. If the tones are the same (how light or dark) and the colours mismatched it is very noticeable. If the colours are different then the tones need to be a bit different too. I would be inclined to make a selection that works with your inside colours first and then actually paint the samples on the outside to see if they work.

Refrigerator, black or white ?

Thanks Holly. I'm not worried about the fridge getting dirty or having fingerprints as I am an older widow and live alone. Even though the tile and countertop are black I take your point that a black fridge would stand out.

Yes I can find lots of the black shutters inside the white windows but can't find any of the external white windows with internal black shutters - does anyone have any images?

@Juliet Docherty That's a great way to put it and maybe what I was struggling with. Black is a bit more city and the off white is more seaside.

The black windows remind me of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Art Nouveau building for Glasgow’s School of Art. They work beautifully in this terrace because there are fitting to the place and era and, crucially, the whole terrace is the same.

I note also how well the white shutters work in these black frames; so often black windows disappear in buildings with darker stone/brickwork/rendering and the building looks disconcertingly ‘blind’.

So, I agree with the other comments: in a terrace where all the houses have white windows, white is best!

I agree that matching the others, in whites.. is timeless and also more suited to near the beach would be the best way to go on this occasion :)
