Different colour parquet floor....
Comments (0)We recently discovered parquet floors under the carpets of living and dining room of our bungalow. We sanded them down. Unfortunately both floors have completely different colour Parquet ( one is light brownish/grey and the other is kind of orange brown) but the same herringbone pattern. Is there a way to get similar colour as the rooms are interlinked....See MoreTo Parquet or not to Parquet
Comments (3)The room is lovely. I would say yes for the light but again I love a statement light in a room and it will draw more attention to the features. You could go for a more modern chandelier with your arc lamp. Parquet is of course dearer to have laid than just wooden boards and if they're reclaimed they may need a little work so would also consider that. As I say your existing floor is lovely but parquet is quite special for want of a better word!...See MoreCan I restore this parquet flooring?
Comments (2)hi Elizabeth, The floor that you have is nice and is laid with an integral backing from your photos. it is thin as the pattern is small and it is an overlay floor, using the substrate for the strength. you can certainly lift the floor and relay it in a room of your choice. with time and patience I'm sure you will be able to restore the floor yourself, if this is something you want to do yourself. the original floorboards will be ok underneath the parquet, although they may require sanding to remove residual glue. you will need a slight transition strip at the door to get you down to the existing floor height, but it will look fine. it may be worth getting a flooring company to give you a quote for the sanding as this can be a challenge. good luck and enjoy your new home!! best Rowland...See MoreHall and stairs and a parquet floor.
Comments (7)If it's dark wood... it's dark wood. It's nice to preserve an original feature but sometimes it just doesn't work anymore so it's time to update. If it was a mistake to use such a dark floor in a dark hall you shouldn't have to live with that mistake just because it's old. Option 1. Remove it and use it elsewhere in the house. Some of it can be used to make furniture or a wall feature. Replace with light floor of your choice. Option 2. Leave it as an original feature but cover over it with a new floor. Laminate / carpet etc. It's always there in case you want to bring it up again at a later date. Option 3. Use stain on it as required and accept that it's a dark floor. Use light paint on the wall and a large runner down the middle to cover enough of it so it doesn't have as much impact. Think of other ways to brighten up the hall e.g. increase the glazing in the front door or the door into the kitchen, remove the small wall next to the kitchen door and replace that with a glass panel, use mirrors, add artificial lighting etc....See MoreCarol Cahill
