1st ever kitchen renovation: B&Q or Wren?

Unsure of what would be best here, would like some advice/input from those more experienced.
My kitchen is a medium sized room about 300 x 350cm. I've gotten 3 quotes from 3 separate places, which don't include fitting price (I've got my own fitter.)
Wren: £6500, not inc. the fridge freezer, flooring, tiles or washer.
B&Q: £6100, inc. everything except the floor.
Magnet: £9500, including everything.
Obviously Magnet is an OTT price, so it's between B&Q and Wren.
Thing is, while B&Q gave the better price, I prefer the design & overall operation from Wren - my gut is telling me to go with them, despite them being pricier. Which is unlike me, as I'm usually all about the savings.
Some extra details: Wren's would have been more, but they have a few sale items, so that brought the price down considerably.
Wren also priced it for the pre-built cabinets (not flat-packed), while B&Q only do flat-pack. Apparently this will save on fitting.
My fitter also suggested I use his card at Wren to get trade price - not sure if the sales mentioned above will be applied if I do though.
I'm also not above getting some appliances and the like secondhand or from wholesalers. As they're going to be integrated appliances, however, I'm not sure how possible this will be.
Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Pay a Which subscription for a short while and read their reviews. You may find you want to avoid Wren ktichens. DIY kitchens seem to be a really good option, you need to have a design ready to go though.

We were very happy with our wren product and service. I would say if you prefer the Wren design then you should go for it. Wouldn't it be sad to settle for your second choice because of someone else's bad experience, it may not happen to you. We are going with wren again despite 'all the bad reviews' it's a small risk worst taking for us as they have the only kitchen we like within our budget.

I'm back - lots of 'stuff' went to charity, house looking better but still a loft full! That will change as I'm selling loads to support both my Church funds and a children's charity which I'm cutting off my hair for!!! They make wigs for children who've lost hair due to cancer. I've got about 10 inches so far and I'm hosting a supper, auction and haircut night in the spring - want to grow a couple of inches more for 2 wigs. It costs the charity £350 per wig so need twice that & I'll be a happy shorthaired bunny. My paid helper is a little prone to not quite finishing jobs so next week it's that, then up in the loft to have a good sort. I WAS a compulsive shopper - she's put paid to that and made me see sense - so all of my beautiful items, brand new, tags on, have to go!!!!! Cathartic or what!

Hello Kavi R, I actually want to say I find the flooring really interesting if it's in good condition... You could bring it really up to date with how you treat the rest of the space.. It's not looking as fab as it could simply because the rest is rather dated.. However some things are so cool they should remain! Here's what I would do.. Remove all overhead cabinets and corner shelving. You could have plain style cabinets if you wanted top and bottom cabinetry but I would keep it to base units only possibly - Having a sleek wood arrangement with hidden groove handles for example. A slatted blind would add texture for the window and some furniture which compliments the space... Some beautiful orange accessories would compliment the flooring and you could offset the flooring with an interesting wall treatment.. I have doodled with a visual using your middle image, to show you and to illustrate how one thing can form the basis for an extremely stylish environment.. If the flooring is linoleum it's really in right now.. :))

Just to weigh in on the Howdens comments, the key is to make sure you know someone in the trade who can put you forward to them, that way you just get dealt with as a trade using their account. They do have sales on but generally speaking the price doesn't fluctuate much through the year, except when they have their big sale on which is usually October time. I do use Howdens and no, they're not perfect but most of the grumbles I hear are more to with customer service which don't fall in line with the glossy showroom kitchen providers. The quality of the kitchens is very good (25 year warranty iirc) so if you have access to them then do get a quote from them. I think what I would say is that if you go to Howdens, expect a slightly tradesman type relationship (the showrooms are far from impressive) but a key thing is that they hold stock on most items. If you get a damaged door for example, it can be replaced next day, try getting that out of Homebase....... With regard to appliances, we have SMEG in our kitchen and I'd never buy it again. Hobbs been fine, but three new ovens on warranty and whilst it now works fine, the previous two didn't. Previously we had Bosch for everything and it all worked faultlessly, so I can't recommend them enough.

Hi Ben, I like the 2nd last design, the one without the cupboard opposite the boiler. Having a wall unit there breaks the sight line and makes it feel cluttered. I would use the shelves for glasses and cups. I have wood worktops from worktop express. Great quality, just a little wear 3 years on. We opted for an oil finish and need to do the 1st re-oil soon. We have a dishwasher so minimal dishes done but the sink is siliconed under it's rim. Water doesn't seem to be an issue yet.

There are so many kitchen providers out there that I think it’s worth shopping around a bit more. My kitchen is 12 years old and from Wrens. They supplied everything but I had my own fitter. It’s okay and has stood the test of time. Most of the Wren’s problems are to do with poor fitting. They have flashy showrooms which tempt people. I have heard DIY Kitchens are supposed to be really good and lots of Hoyzzers use them. Why not try some independent kitchen fitters who cater for all budgets. Worth a try.

Have you visited any local independents retailers and asked what they can do? Supporting your local independent retailer potentially really helps your local economy, and they should support you throughout the process before, during and afterwards. You may also end up with a better design and a higher quality product.

Use the Wren plan if that is your preferred one and go to an independent supplier. We quote against Wren and the big sheds and always come in cheaper with better quality.

Wren currently have horrendous feedback and one of the main reasons why people go to them is the interest free deal. Of course this is added into the initial price.

Do your homework first as kitchens are a big expense. They all have Facebook review pages which are very informative. Tread carefully.
