Hi Jane, the wall tile is called Calacatta Vintage honed 24x48 by Olympia Tile and the shower floor mosaic was from Glazzio, but is no longer available. Thank you.

Me again! saying - a combination of the two :-p http://www.grespania.com/coverlam.php?sec=int Like we did in our bathroom, you could also use that 3 mm thin tile that comes in panels as large as 3X1 m. You'd need a good tiler to install it (it needs an almost perfect horizontal/ vertical surface) and can go for an extremely thin grout line. And it's not as expensive as back painted glass or resin panels, it costs just a bit more than an average, normal ceramic tiles.

Just wondering whether it would look sleeker and larger with your Hex grey on the floor and your feature wall. It simplifies the look cutting down to just two different tiles. The hex grey will still look nice with the slate tray and the black shower surround. I'm not sure if it was an error, but you mention hex grey on the shower wall and the links you give are for black, sand and white. This is the grey Cement grey that can go on the floor and the wall, with the white everywhere else.

Well, that decision is very much your call! To reply to your questions: Is it possible to assess the quality? If you have the two side by side and know what you are looking for, you will get a flavour. But as I have said, because so much hinges on the quality of the brass, the manufacturing & machining process etc, and because any problems are likely only to come to light a couple of years down the line, that is where the challenge arises. So if things do go wrong, who will help you put them right? Another question to ask yourself: who do you trust more to tell the honest truth about what you are buying: a call-centre operative on sales commission looking to make a quick sale to someone they’ll never speak to again, or a local independent studio owner who knows he’ll be on the hook to fix it if it goes wrong, and whose reputation hinges on selling quality that lasts? Also consider the product you highlighted in the image: a concealed valve shower. All the core mechanical parts of that product are about to be embedded behind no doubt beautiful tiles or expensive shower boards, out of sight. If problems do occur, you may not realise it for some time. Putting it right is not necessarily as straightforward as replacing a tap washer! Is spending a little more now on quality a good investment, given the cost of putting right a leaking installation? Of course, you are not facing a “binary” decision. You could seek out some other quality brands who may have similar products at slightly keener prices. One we use is Flova, and while they are manufactured in China, the overall process & quality control is good in a single purpose built factory, and the back up support in the UK has been excellent. Personally, there are a few items in bathrooms I encourage customers not to skimp on: shower trays; showers & taps and the WC pan & cistern. These are the core functional items in a bathroom. If anything goes wrong, they can cause larger problems, and/or are awkward/expensive to fix. So worth going for trusted, quality brands on these. Make savings on secondary items - basins, tiles, worktops, furniture - if you wish to squeeze. They are less critical. But that is just me!

Hi Clare, your house is amazing, all these beautiful period features!! :-) Polished interiors have made some great suggestions, I am just adding a few more ideas to the mix. Apologies in advance if this will just confuse you.... I know you considered Metro tiles and these can look great in bathrooms. The fun with these is that you can play around with different laying patters (herringbone, chevron, brick style) which will all give a unique look and add some interest: Annoyingly builders often recommend large tiles for bathroom, which is frustrating in my opinion. You absolutely do not have to worry about small tiles making the bathroom look even smaller. As a matter of fact, I feel that smaller tiles will suit the style of your home much better. An alternative to consider to metro tiles, would be glazed tiles, such as zellige tiles. You could stick with white, or there are some beautiful neutral shades available, with subtle undertones of greys, greens or pinks, which would all compliment your home beautifully. I have attached a few images. As you can see the play with light is stunning and adds colour, depth and shades while still remaining neutral. The "imperfection" of these tiles go well with a period home, and you won't need to worry too much about cleaning, as they tiles themselves are already "uneven". I would go with patterned tiles for the floor as previously suggested to add interest. Y ou could try something a bit less standard by going with something like these, which you could also use on the shower walls and behind the vanity too instead of the metro or zellige tiles. It would give a very unique and interesting look: Personally, I would avoid wood effect tiles in your bathroom, as it won't be a match to your existing wooden floors anyway. If the above pattern is really not your style though, then I think a concrete style look would great with the marble vanity top and the zellige (glazed tiles): One last idea, which I think you will either love or hate, is considering a neutral terrazo floor with zellige wall tiles: In terms of a mirror, I would bring in some warmth and/or contrast by choosing a rustic brass looking one, an industrial looking black one, or depending on what tiles you go for even an ornate vintage mirror. If you like any of these ideas, I would be more than happy to create a proper moodboard and once we agreed on a style you like, I could provide with you a 3D render of the room, to help you visualise your choices before you committ. This will be quite time consuming on my part though, so I would need to charge for this service... Best of luck - I am sure whatever you go for, it will look amazing. Tessy :-)
