Design Dilemma Living Rooms

What kind of curtains & what colour(s) suits this living room?

The living room is mostly grey, there are dark blue chairs, orange pillows, most of the furniture such as tv sideboard, coffee tables are made up of walnut wood and there are some hints of black combined with gold. I want to avoid overdoing it. I prefer having as much light in the living room as possible.

I would class those cushions as more of a rust as opposed to orange. Could you swap them for a definite bright orange and also have curtains that have a large proportion of orange in? Walnut has undertones of orange so l think it would work well together.

You could go for curtains in a mid century pattern with grey and orange, but if you want something a bit calmer and elegant then curtains in a similar shade to the walls would work, or maybe a very pale grey linen.

Hey everyone! Good to hear from you all again. We have 2 wks before we go back to school. It's been a busy summer but good. My boy (14) is in marching band and they've been practicing all summer for the fall football games. He is worn out. My girl has been playing with friends and is doing a bit of a room redo herself (she is 10). Nice to see you all are well. We took a weekend a bit ago to Chincoteague VA and it was great! Hi. I think you've got a few options. You could go for a similar pale Aqua or white, or a deep teal ( depending on light in the room) or a different shade of green or a pale biscuit or you could mix the Aqua, biscuit and White. If you choose a plain rug I'd go for patterned curtains. If not, personally I'd choose the biscuit to add more warmth. Your ŵall colour is lovely but that colour can look a little cool in some lights. Ignore the style of pics just colour combo. If possible I'd hang the curtain pole a little higher and go for full length curtains that just skim the floor

Hi Rumkini, Thanks for that. I’m not sure you picked up on all the doorways and walkways?, so I've put red arrows on the crucial well worn routes, one being the Kitchen, and the other the main entrance/central walkway. I thought about an “L” arrangement, but as you say, you cant recline onto each-other, it creates “premium/preferred seating”, and less routes to get around. I’ve looked at your plan, and by moving the tv facing couch much further back, may work, but only with slim or no end tables as I think the coffee table would end up too far away, and it really restricts the main walkthrough. I’m looking to level the playing field on the seating options and certainly in favour of the idea that everyone will have the same view, not fighting over “the” TV junky spot (or rather Elite Dangerous on the Xbox spot when it comes to my 13 year old along with wires, laptop controllers...sufficed to say I'm moving the boy OUT of the living area). Re, view of the tv, the further away you are is the better view, it’s a compromise, optimum viewing vs facing eachother, but to be honest, I don’t think many ever sit on the end of a sofa with a comfy arm rest in a regimented position. The odd thing is, being a curved tv helps me out a bit, genuinely, with the angles. The Dining table is a 6 seater 1800x900, and I have a foldaway 900x900 catering table to extend it for Christmas. I did put it to scale on the plan, but showing it all out on this next picture, and I’m not concerned about that at all, it has space elsewhere for now. Besides, I “will” have room to put it here, but not yet. After trawling through sofa options, I find it is possible to have a true 3 seater at 205x98 rather than nearer 230x210 with reclining ends. Also, I can sell my 600x600 oversized lamp tables to opt for 200x600 slim end tables. The rug I've put in for scale is 2000x1400. With or without the smaller couches, I'm finding that perhaps the TV should actually stay right where it is after all, plus reducing glare from the window especially at this time of the year with the low sun. If I took the top picture, keeping the tv where it is, and take on board your idea that I do have the room to move them further apart/more into the dining area, I can fit something inbetween too. I red circled the couch over the corner of the window/radiator... it sets off something OCD in me. Even if the couch was to be pulled away from the wall, it restricts the main walkthrough whether it is this way or the L plan suggested.

So you get sun for a good part of the day which means the room is quite bright. The black sofas are light sapping, so if you are keeping them you need the throws and cushions to help brighten them up. I rather like your dark wood furniture and they will be improved with plants to give a bit of a colonial or tropical vibe. You could wallpaper one wall in something a bit tropical to add lovely greens. Some are quite colourful so you can pick colours out for your accessories. In which case a nice soft white on the rest of the walls would look great. The wall behind the tv and table looks like a good wall to wallpaper. You can’t deny it gives you plenty of colour!
