Bathrooms Design Dilemma Renovating

Bathroom refresh -awkward space

last year

I have a narrow dated bathroom 3m x 1.7m and would like to update. The services are behind a wall section that is jutting out with the toilet and sink in the adjacent alcoves leaving the space very poky.
I am bit lost as to what I can do with it except for some stylish accessories

Do you mean completely refurnish or just try and update with accessories etc?

The pipework section also seems extremely large, do you know if it can be made smaller?

The elephant in the room is the bit jutting out. It’s huge if it’s just housing pipework why is it so big? The other thing is the dated beige tiles which are overbearing. If you want a budget solution then paint the tiles. I’m not really sure how good tile paint is, so worth doing some research.

Update -- my plumber finally returned. Not sure what he did while here, but he told me again it wasn't working -- then he did some work on a radiator which had a small leak. We were having a long discussion about options on pumps, new showers, taps etc and I read out the installation guide and he tried it again, and suddenly it worked. It is bizarre as I don't know how many times i tried it previously. My friend who works in construction ALSO called earlier today and tried it several times to no avail. It must have been extremely stiff or perhaps the plumber realised some airlock whilst fixing the radiator since I think water pressure is much stronger since he went. Thanks for everyones help -- i learned lots on plumbing and a valuable lesson to take out the installation manuals myself and not trust that trades men know everything!!! I feel like celebrating!!

In regards to the radiator, you have a great eye and we can certainly see how a dark grey radiator could work in this space. However, in this particular case the customer specifically requested the classic white radiator look. You may prefer something slightly different but imagine how boring the world would be if everyone had the same taste!

Yeah the pipework section really limits where fittings can go, I am def going to find out if it can be made smaller.

I agree the tiles are too much are look really dated. I had bought some black fittings as a short term improvement but I think it really needs a total reno 🙆

How about sacrificing some space, turn the basin alcove into a cupboard, then put the basin opposite the toilet, next to the bath. You could even put a door to the new, smaller, space, to make it feel different. A big mirror on the wall, a plant or two on the window sill, and it’ll look and feel different. But if you can dispense with the boxed in pipe area that would be great.

I would be tempted to do as Angie suggests, and make a cupboard from the basin recess. My brother has a similar shaped bathroom and they renovated it recently. They don’t have the basin alcove, but just a solid wall (it’s over the stairs). Here’s a couple of photos:
