What colour front door would work with heather (a bit purple) bricks?

Hi,

I’ve spent years thinking our brick was dark brown but I’ve finally noticed it has a purpley-pinkish tone (London Brick Co heather apparently). We are having a new wooden front door fitted & am not sure if it‘s best to lean in to the purple and go for a lilac door or contrast with maybe sage green? There is a lot of green out there already with countless plants though.

Can anyone advise as to what colours might work best? Currently have bright teal which is nice tho fancy a change, something lighter perhaps. The brick is dark so anything that complements the purple hue & brightens up the front of the house would be perfect.

p.s. the wooden window boxes are going and there will be an oak framed pitched porch. Windows are white, driveway is sandy colour gravel, so all fairly neutral/natural in a semi rural location..

Lilac would be amazing. I can’t quite see the purple in your bricks but it would look great with the Sage Green, Lilac and even a blush pink. First pic is F&B Brassica.

Thank you Sonia. Love the first photo especially. Can only dream of living in a house like that - the thickness of the front wall!

I agree it’s hard to see the purple of the bricks in photos. Will try to post a couple of close ups from the web. It’s a subtle hue and fairly warm…I think! This is why I’m not sure what to pair it with as I think of lilac as a cool colour..

Thank you Celerygirl and everyone else. I think I have made my decision now for now. Black !!! I am going to have the door frames, sidelights and door in Black and centralised, the brick work extended at the top of the frame and a roof light installed in the roof. Its exactly what I didn't think I wanted but what sits right with me. Many thanks for all of your help I will update you all with the result in November when we are due to carry out the work.

I think your choices sound lovely. Certain colours look better with red brick, such as all the blues from palest powder blue to inky blues. I agree greens are also good, but I do prefer the paler greens rather than dark bottle green, but it’s your whatever is your preference. Here’s a few that caught my eye.

Hi Mally, From the image it looks like your house has soft mud bricks on the exterior. Bricks have a dominant character in nature. They may steal the focus point at glance from your front door. Deep-tone coloured doors complements brick I would advise to have white or same colour shaded windows and door frames. Dark shades can be elegant, welcoming colors . Additional tip , you might consider carrying the same style to the garage door. As it will create a design flow throughout the front view. Please do not hesitate to connect me for more assistance. I live in a similar era house. Are you not actually allowed to change the window colour or is it that you don't want them to stand out? I think that black windows would look better so the darker the better. For me the first thing that had to go on my house was the square browns guttering. We changed ours to black and our painted the woodwork underneath the guttering black and it dragged it forward by twenty years. I know this isn't the answer to your question but I thought I would mention it as I have a similar era house.

The darker bricks seem most purple, possibly even veering towards aubergine or dark mauve. We have a lot of lavenders, herbs, white flowering plants etc at the front and they all look nice with it. It’s hardly the south of France (!) but maybe I should look to there for inspiration?!
