paint colour for shaded south facing room
Comments (20)Hi. Is this a new house? Just wondering if you’d thought about cutting back some of the trees if possible? You might also be able to add something reflective in the garden ie water feature, mirror, light stone (can’t work out if you have decking down). I can’t say for sure but I’m not sure the colour of the wood makes any difference to the amount of light it bounces. I’ve got a walnut floor which bounces loads of light, I also inherited a really dark granite worktop in an east facing room but because it has a glossy finish it doesn’t darken the room at all. I’d get some floor samples in the room and see how reflective they are. Personally I might also choose the paint last (and after the floor is fitted) as there are thousands of paint colours and it’s relatively cheap compared to furniture. You could also consider adding a really large mirror on the long left hand wall. Also look at other reflective surfaces maybe a glass and brass coffee table, metal and glass for lighting etc. Are the curtains new?...See Morehague blue feature colour in new home
Comments (8)I agree that brilliant white is too much of a contrast especially since the kitchen cabinets are a grey with a brown undertone. So I would search the Farrow and Ball site for inspiration paying particular attention to their explanations of the colour. Personally (having now seen the space) I like All White, Strong White and Cornforth White to complement the blue in the living area and blue kitchen accents such as a rug/ blind/ accessories. Given how contemporary the kitchen is I don’t think it will suit painting the cabinets and personally I think a soft white glass splashback or grey or bronzed mirror would be a cleaner look than the metro tiles (although I think the metro tiles will also go)....See MoreLiving room, south facing . 1930,s bungalow
Comments (4)Hi Joyce Photo any images online, that you like as a source of inspiration for the room? I understand that you’d like a coastal scheme. Would something like the following be of interest? As these rooms have the nice Sandy sort of look with the light neutral coloured walls. Adding to the natural light of the room, whilst implementing a subtle touch of blue and green, through plants and soft furnishings. Greens and Blue are quite strong colours, so would need to be implemented in the right way to not come across too aggressive, unless of course that’s what you’re going for. If you could draw out the room layout, I'd be happy to help you with position of your furniture. I hope these help you, I'd be happy to assist with your design should you need any further help or advice! @KerryBryanInteriors...See Moresouth facing living room decision on colour to go with wallpaper
Comments (8)Hi again, I think the best bet would be to pick out the blue/green for behind the stove, otherwise you will always have a vertical cream / grey stripe breaking the wall up. You could always wallpaper across the enitire wall and put a piece of clear glass behind the stove (screwed not glued), which would tie in with your glass hearth. Another option would be to have an enamel heat shield made for behind the stove in the blue / green colour. The same colour could be used for the wall behind the sofa whch would contrast well, then paint the other walls in one of the cream shades. It sounds as if you have plenty of light being south facing, so it should be OK. The inset photograph illustrates an enamel heat shield....See Morekazzh
