POLL: What will be the kitchen trends in 2016?
Comments (42)Having enough storage makes a huge difference to a kitchen - we had ours redone in 2015 & we decided on a lot of storage, with the cupboards scribed to the ceiling (no my dust at the top of the units) as well as useable long counter tops that are practical for preparing & cooking. We also opted to have a microwave built in because it frees up the counter in the adjoining utility. http://deeatthecarlton.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/the-kitchen-is-beautiful.html Kitchens have to be practical because it is a space which is generally used a lot in most homes ......See MoreCarrara clash! Comments (17)Thanks CreatPerfect, yes the rendering looks such a useful tool, that could be good. Nice kitchen, too. Minnie, yes! That's the green kitchen I was thinking of. I wonder if we could pull off such a bold statement... It's all pretty light and bright at the moment. Don't want to repaint the walls as they've just been done, and figure the few cabinets would be easier to change. Good advice to wait until the floor etc is in. No splashback, just a 5cm strip of the same marble going around. Thanks so much for saying it's still a lovely kitchen, ColourHappy! It is quite gut-wrenching to spend so much and have it not look quite right... And many thanks for explaining what's going on here colourwise... Makes total sense. We sort of knew we'd have that problem with the Sand and marble, but was steering away from grey-toned paint (as surrounded by concrete brutalist buildings) and wanted something light and bright and that would work with brass and the oak floors. I found the pale neutrals from Paint and Paper a bit restrictive... Although have used Slate 2 and Wattle 2 in bedrooms and probably should have used one of those here, too. The other problem is that the marble is supposed to be Carrara Bianco, the whitest... But maybe that's the colour trickery at play. I hope the brass finishes work, as the tap will be quite pricey. Going for unlacquered for a less blingy look. I just hope it doesn't look 80s, like the kitchen we've just pulled out!...See MoreRose gold taps
Comments (3)Hello Ellora, Personally I would steer clear of cheap taps and look to offset the expenditure elsewhere in your design process. Taps are not something you can afford to get wrong. They are the bling in the bathroom etc and so need to be right. The Elements range by Watermark are in my opinion worth the splash out ! (on a par with Kohler) The Karbon is what I would choose for a kitchen from K) With the Elements range by Watermark you can choose the components to make a bespoke configuration re the knobs.. I think they are fabulous... Here's a little design I put together with the rose gold as this is what you are favouring. However there are many fabulous finishes and configurations you can select. I personally think theres no definable placement re the knobs so I put them together in my design as opposed to either side. The below is a close up of the rose gold and marble version I had used. Remember bottle traps and waste when considering finishes such as rose gold or anything other than chrome which I personally hate.. If not going for golds or brass.. choose Nickel for a silver finish that is a sophisticated superior to chrome- but it all depends on the materials they pair with as to what looks best.... :))...See Morehandles for industrial style kitchen
Comments (56)Was reading back over earlier comments and it's funny because most of you guys like either the black or copper. LOL. Now no-one likes the black :o( I know most of you like the bronze - but I really don't. Sorry! Antique brass is nice but can't see to find any of the knobs I like in that tone as they only do the bronze or brushed brass/silver/matt black. Thought I was doing well to narrow the choice down but now you have all thrown me, LOL. trouble makers ;o) The reason I wanted black is because I didn't want handles at all. Thought this would be a discreet way of making them look less obvious. The shaker style looks beautiful and for me, better without handles but that wasn't an option for this style of unit I chose so I have to have them. I think if I don't go for black then I might have to go for silver (brushed or burnished if I can find any). Something I didn't want - but actually it will tie in with the rest of the appliances and then not clash with whatever splash-back I choose?...See MoreDaisy England
