How to paint over black with a deep blue colour?

Please see pic. Bedroom wall with 4 black silhouettes with blue/orange/lime/purple backgrounds. Want to paint over with one of the blue colours in the 2nd picture, this is just 1 coat of a tester so far, but you can see the black is still showing at the edge of the silhouette, albeit the black paint doesn’t feel particularly raised. Any advice? Google is telling me to prime it but I need a bit more indepth advice! Thanks!

I can’t fully advise, but I painted over a dark navy wall with a paler greeny-blue and it only needed 2 coats to cover it.

This is some of the navy wall I repainted with 2 coats of emulsion. Can’t see the navy at all

As long as the wallpaper isn't excessively shiny you should in theory be able to paint into it. Check the paper is fully stuck down so check corners, joints etc Paint it with some Matt emulsion, sand the joints down slightly then paint it again until the colour is solid

Hi Suzie, could you perhaps do something a bit out of the box and choose something that is a splash of colour? Like a found object? Chinese ceramic stools? you can also go to vintage fairs etc. Or some companies source and stock interesting pieces. This is one : http://www.retrouvius.com/stock/storage I think more grey would be dull, more black would indeed make the room feel too small. I quite like the idea of timber for your chest of drawers etc. Difficult to visualise the space thought! Colour choice is pretty personal. I am partial to blues and purples.. but that is just me! Love the ideas and that styling of the bathroom is very nice. Do you happen to know what Mylands colour that is? Slightly regretting having a dark floor tile now when I see that white floor and the colour on the walls. Do you think I would be making the room too dark if I have both the dark green/blue floor tile and a rich dark green blue on the wall? I agree that the Dulux Teal colours look great! Really 'of the moment' too that colur.

Thanks Sonia, that’s a lovely color. I have now given it two coats and it has covered it completely but the black outline is still showing.
