Grey Polished & Matt Porcelain Tiles - suggestions on paint to match

Morning,

So we've now had our en-suite fitted and went with a combination of grey porcelain (polished on the wall, matt on the floor) with a wood effect vanity unit. Excuse the mess in the photos, this is currently a bit of a an all family en-suite at the moment as we have no other bathroom for now!

You'll see in the photos we still have a few bits and pieces to do, fitting towel rad (anthracite), fitting a new mirror/cabinet, fixing the lights, accessories etc.

Question for you, do you think we should stick with white on the walls, or go for more colour/tonal?

If white, are there good bathroom paints you'd recommend? (i know there are 000's of whites!) :)

On my screen your tiles look more brown than grey, so I’m not sure what to suggest. White would be a good choice, is that your current colour? With what type of paint to use, mine is Dulux Bathroom paint which is washable, but I’ve found it chips easily and I wish I’d never used it! I will soon be repainting it with Dulux Trade Diamond Matt which seems to have pretty good reviews and hopefully will be tougher. In the past I have used simple Dulux Matt Emulsion which isn’t washable, but gave a really nice finish.

Thanks Sonia, they are definitely grey :) must be my camera! White is only on there as a mist coast as it was fresh plaster. Good to know re the quality of the Dulux Bathroom paint.

I wouldn't be too concerned having brown specks in the stone top to match the floor. I would recommend to get some real Silestone samples from your kitchen company and look at them in your house against your floor. Also get some paint samples and put together a mood board. This will give you an idea of the overall look, this is what I do for my clients. It takes all the confusion and guess work out of it, when you can see samples and not just looking at the colours on the computer screen.

Hello Niamh, Have you considered continuing on with the chosen colour (tray) The tray is indeed lovely as Tops Tiles have already mentioned.. Its a sophisticated choice and with a seamless look throughout- I think could be spectacular. Also consider an option for tile design that is not just the usual.. Herringbone would add a fabulous difference and add texture and interest. You can carry this throughout from walls to floor.. Another reason for this is that you do not "zone" for want of a better way of putting it any specific areas in such an overt way, which can have a detrimental effect on the overall spatial effect visually. Also consider interesting combinations on a theme or variations on a tone with the colour. The same can be said for mixed finishes. Lastly some beautiful brass fittings could really enhance the finish... Have a look at these for some inspiration.. :)) Herringbone with slight variations in colour add interest and texture.. Shades on a theme and mixed materials add sophistication.

It’s like you can read my mind!! Yes, a pop of orange in cushions plus maybe a dark blue chair? and blue/grey on the walls. The rooms are quite big (8m x 7m kitchen, 8m x5m drawing room separated by 1.8m corridor) so the plan is to have dado height panelling in vaulted entrance and hallway with the whole fireplace wall panelled in drawing room. White of course!! Stairs are going to be walnut and white with wrought iron spindles and white panelling up the side. Do you think I’d get away with painting hallway a warmer greige colour as it’s north facing and I don’t want it to feel too cold. Love the idea of a vintage Georgian piece, genius. This is our dream home which we’re building mostly ourselves and we’ve been renting for 5 1/2 years to make it a reality so I want to try to get it right even though I don’t know what I’m doing and just keep liking lots of Houzz photos

Hi Vandana, although we agree with some points Minipie mentioned, but we think glossy marble in the house is just beautiful. Concerns that it feels cold can easily be solved by installing underfloor heating. And the fact that is glossy, we agree it can be slippery, but in the living room we presume you will have a nice big rug to make it cozy and non-slippery, but in the kitchen, that glossy finish will make it much easier to clean the floor. All greys have a tone to them. Some have a green quality, some brown, some blue. When you have worked out what you have it’s much easier to choose a neutral paint colour for the wall. The Farrow and Ball website includes descriptions to help
