where to place tv and maximise sitting space for large family

Just purchased a house and struggling with living room design.
Fireplace is closed off, opposite wall to it has a radiator.
I want to be able to sit 6/8 people as I have a large family.
Where shall I place the tv to maximise seating areas? Any advice is very welcomed

If this area is to eat , socialise and enjoy the view out to the garden I think the layout will be different to if you are looking to eat and watch tv, and different again if it's to eat, read books and sit in the sunshine... there's lots of questions involved when we design a kitchen for a client and we include the eating and living space too - as we want to get design just right for you too - then you can shop around and compare like for like with one plan ( we don't sell product) So maybe you could add a bit more about how many of you live there, if this is the main living area or a secondary area - if there's a TV required or bookshelves or a piano even !

We bought a house similar to this and it really depends on things like light levels in different rooms at different times of day, and for that you need to live in it. For example, our dining room off the kitchen is not light in the mornings but gets afternoon/evening light when we use it most. Matching light levels to when rooms get maximum use is a good idea. We removed a conservatory that was a carbuncle and ate into the garden, it resulted in more light in the lounge and a better space outside. What are these conservatories like?

Unless this flat is to be a family home - or you're planning to throw lavish dinner parties, I would seriously consider how much storage you actually need, and perhaps start from what you need, rather than how much you can fit in. The ideas of a u shaped kitchen and a sliding door to the living room I think will optimise your space, and I'm thinking a sideboard in the living room would store your table crockery and cutlery, again reducing what needs to be in the kitchen. Looks like a lovely flat - hope you really enjoy doing it. A last minute thought - you can often get ex display units from top kitchen shops very reasonably priced.

Regarding the fireplace, what type of fire are you thinking of having? If its a real wood fire of gas fire, then you may need to take into account a chimney/flue system. It looks like both options you have suggested have the fireplace in the original house and not in the planned extension, which means any flue/chimney would likely need to to run up through the house and may cause issues with the space above. There are some great options available when it comes to fires and stoves that might allow you to position the stove away from the wall and perhaps more central in the room. Double sided stoves with glass on opposite sides are good options when you have bi-folding doors as you can enjoy the ambience of the fire from both inside or outside.
