hi. brick. ohhhh the brick

I have always been a fan of bringing brick inside. I’ve never seen it used on a floor but had family that used it in a kitchen and it has seared my memory in being endlessly warm and rustic. I notice that it has been used in the utility areas. Mushroom, kitchen, laundry. I also notice the brick on the floor has a sheen. I assume this is for waterproofing? Wow! This is such an incredible and under used material in a home’s interior. Are these full bricks or a veneer of sorts. Are the same bricks used on the wall ( pickled)?

Hi Erik and Clare! We love the brick too! It brings so much character into a home. The brick in this picture is locally sourced split brick that is sealed for protection but unfortunately not water proofed. While the details on the wall look very similar to brick, they are actually porcelain tile. Hi I had the same dilemma with the dining part of my kitchen. I love the brick wall effect so decided to try a wallpaper as it's only a small wall. I'm really pleased with the results. It cost me just £9 for one roll from B & Q. You can only tell it's wallpaper by getting up close and touching it - before and after photos attached.

You could go lots of ways with this kitchen.... You have good light and it looks lovely and warm..... I would personally go for a neutral then you can dress up or down with accessories. Have a look at rolling fog, Mirage II, Dorchester Pink and Clay by Little Greene.

Helenandy126: Travis Perkins came in at the best, but I have a trade account with them and I bargain hard. If I remember, Furness sold direct but they just couldn't get anywhere near what I wanted to pay. There are thousands of bricks out there, you just need to narrow it down but go with the big names such as Hanson or Ibstock as they'll have close copies of most bricks out there. I'm not sure if the merchants still do this but once you give your site address and your brick, they register it with the manufacturers and then no other merchant can quote, meaning your stuck with their price. That's why you'll then be able to find a close match with another manufacturer so that you can then get another price for the different brick.

Hi Beccikiddo, I'd highly recommend against wallpaper in a fireplace recess (due to heat on paper etc) However that's not to say you can't find something that would be suitable.
