Need help for my kitchen in a holiday home
Comments (22)Hi - just checking in before I shut down the computer ! Thank you Joe !!! Roselyne, love the photos !! Looks so quaint !!! So, France ! Much more liberal with regard to planning (phew!!) how lovely ! Yes, that cottage look would fit in so well !!! The last project I did in France was an old watermill in Rennes - beautiful location - but a nightmare to find a good furniture manufacturer !! Have you sourced anything yet ?! Or are you thinking of bringing it all over by road ?!?!...See MoreNeed help with the location of cooker in my new kitchen
Comments (27)I think that sofa shape will not suit your new space very well...but slow down and dream!rome wasn't built in a day!i would work on the kitchen plan...forget about the sofa.the kitchen is permanent...the sofa or location of sofa is not!...Kitchen...function first, then form.If you are not planning on this being your forever home...then don't spent money on moving the boiler, or plumbing or electrics as much as possible (unless there are huge gains to be had in terms of function). Also I think you'll be surprised how much more room there actually is once that wall comes down.I vote to keep the breakfast bar as I think it will really define the space....See MoreNeed help with my new home.
Comments (1)Hi Louise. Re colour it really depends on the light in each room and the size and height of the room if you want the colour to work with the room and increase light and feeling of space etc. what flooring do you have? For the boys, I would get furniture that sees them through to teenage years. Paint, paper and accessorise in bits that can be changed relatively cheaply. Which elements of geography does your son like ie travel or mountains, oceans etc? If he likes travel look at home designing.com at their travel themed kids room for inspiration. For the 6 year old, maybe just get him some bedding and a matching light in something he likes and paint around that ie nautical theme, dinosaurs etc. people do say not to paint kids rooms in bright colours as it doesn't help induce sleep but I haven't found it makes any difference! For the sofa, any shade from cream through to taupe or chocolate could work and accent with a mid blue like a wedgwood colour. A sage green would look nice with the mahogany....See MoreNeed help with my Layout for my new side and rear extension
Comments (14)Hi Imran, Very exciting to be starting your project! I'm not going to make any suggestions on how to layout your space as I'm not an expert but having just gone through a very similar process I thought a few words of advice might be helpful? We were looking at remodelling the downstairs of our house and got structural engineers and architects involved but to be honest it was our designer who was the most help and has stopped us making a couple of silly and costly mistakes with space planning (nothing to do with colours, paint choices or curtains!!!) I would highly recommend working with someone who can do some 3D models and renders of the proposed space for you, so you can see how it will all look. Our designer was amazing and we ended up with 4 or 5 different computer generated 3D images (and YouTube videos!!!) of how the space would look as you walked around it. Not only was it amazingly helpful but she also saved us a lot of money on structural work by pointing out things that would have been costly and not really add anything to the space. I've attached a couple of pics of our space and then the 3D images she did for us. Structural work and remodelling is expensive and our designer (Gina from Create Perfect) was a fraction of what we're spending on the house (far less than I would have expected) and has been worth her weight in gold for getting the space right! I was also surprised by the amount of money we saved using her trade discounts for things like worktops, appliances, carpeting and lighting etc) We're in the middle of building work right now, so I can't post any finished pics but my advice would definitely be to spend a little bit of money now and make sure you get it right as the wrong decisions with walls and structures are mistakes you can't change without a lot more time and money! Good luck whatever you do- it's all very exciting!!!...See MoreDarzy
