kitchen lighting: recessed LED cans vs led bulbs in old style cans?

in a kitchen remodel, what are the reasons to entirely re-wire for JUNO LED recessed cans (cost about $200 apiece, versus using LED bulbs in conventional cans (cost about $30 plus $10 bulb?

We are using low voltage halogen fixtures with LED replacement bulbs. This approach gives you the option of choosing either LED or halogen, depending on the location and quality of light you desire. If you choose the LED only fixture, you are stuck.

Low voltage is preferred for lighting effects that require specific beam width and lumen levels. Line voltage is suitable for economically dim-able general lighting needs. Many people are swayed by the cool trend factor of low voltage without really understanding what they are trying to achieve with the effect of light. Hi Claire, as Litecraft have already pointed out it does depend on what you are going to have in the rest of your kitchen but for me I would go with the Chrome option as think it will make your lights stand out more. If you want to go for something different to chrome there is also a satin nickel option too like this one which isn't as shiny as the chrome options like the one below. Hi We provide LED lamps in 2700K (very warm - yellow) , 3000K (warm white - yellow), 4000K (cool white - white will a hint of yellow), 5000K (soft daylight - very white), 6000K (daylight - more harsh white with hint of blue). Between different makes of LEDs - there will be variations too. What we have seen is that this is very much on personal preference and also how the light interacts with the colour of the units in your room. You should try some options if possible and see what you prefer. If you want to warm your room up go for warm white. If you want to have a sharper look go for cool whiite 4000K (we are seeing this is getting more popular), if you want seriously white then go for daylight (5-6000K). One thing we recommend against is using all in one LED fixture like the H2, because the LED market is moving fast, In 4 years time, if one fixture fails and this unit is not made anymore, it may be replaced with a non-matching fixture. With a LED GU10, you can just change the bulb without having to replace the fixture. Out Professional 7W DGP4 lamp has interchangeable lens (60 degree standard and 38 degrees optional) and really bright. Additionally, you should also check the under cabinet lighting. Everyone really seems to be "pro" tape strips! When I've costed it up, it's roughly the same to do both sides with LED linkable striplights, as is to do tape ones (after factoring in extra drivers and aluminium ducting profiles etc). Given that the LED linkable stiplights put out loads more light (35W for the 2.7m cabinets) vs tape lights which seem to be 10-15W over 5m (so approx half that for my cabinets), why would I want to go with tape? Are there any advantages of tape over striplights (other than being able to fix it flexibly round bends)?

Im confused by FINNE's response. If you chose a interchangeable solution like they suggest you are stuck with either Halogen (which is a dying industry world wide) and LED bulbs which don't offer you high quality LED illumination.

If directional light is not your thing, and you want a wall-wash or diffused light, we also offer many glass lens options for this very purpose. Our high-end sanded glass options diffuse the light beautifully. You lose a small percentage of lumens doing this no matter what solution you go with.

$200 for an LED retrofit and can is really expensive. You can get a quality Cooper LED engine for around $70 CAD and a Halo can for less than $20. Or you could use Lotus LED which do not require a can at all. They range in price from $50 to $100 depending on size and power level required.

I sell a lot of this and they are a great product. Assuming you are in the US there is like a retailer near you. Cans are so yesterday.

I don't see why not, at the art gallery I exhibit at we replaced all the bulbs with LEDs for the track system...They have been working fine for the past couple of years...
