What would you do with this off-centre fireplace?
Comments (63)HI Sarah I love what you have achieved. Many congrats for embracing what you have and creating something that totally enhances the placement of the fireplace. The space looks like it was made for the placement of that perfect chair and you've done a gorgeous job with your selection and placement of art . I am moving with considerable grief from my gorgeous arts and crafts bungalow to an early1970s small house. I have to say this style of architecture in NZ wasnt exactly a highlight. But I set myself a challange to embrace the architecture and look to enhance rather than fight it . That challenge shifted me off my despair track and now I am excited and hopeful and thinking about space and colour and the amazing light pouring in (a quality of houses of this time)..and textures . i feel so cteative in new and diffetent ways...and it's so exciting. seeing what you have achieved - it is very affirming for me I love what you have created....See Moreinvisible lighting behind built in shelves
Comments (11)Thanks! I used a 45mm square section for the frame, 18mm for the front face and 6mm for the rest. On reflection I would have used planed wood for the backbone and maybe even mitred all the MDF joints for a seamless finish. As it is, a couple of the joints will need a touch of filler before its all painted, which bothers me more than it should because I'm a perfectionist!...See MoreCan I build a small wall myself?
Comments (9)I am with the other comments here. Expensive fitments can look naff if poorly installed. Inexpensive fitments can look a million dollars if well fitted. Why not try your skills by partitioning part of a bedroom, hanging doors and making a wardrobe. I imagine this will take you 3 weekends to do. Then you should envisage how much work is required in the bathroom and if you can have your bathroom in a poor state for that long. I get that everyone has a budget but perhaps you shouldn’t start this project until you have the money to do it. Perhaps money can be saved elsewhere. Lastly I don’t mean to sound unkind but being able to put up a few tiles is not the same job as tiling the whole bathroom and it may be beyond your skill set. A tile cutter won’t cut real stone so you will need a wet saw which should not be used by the inexperienced....See MoreIs anyone doing a self build / diy extension out there?
